kratzbaumkordel
Hi, I'm currently learning Affinity Designer, so I'm a beginner. Currently I cannot go on learning because some tools behave strangely and I cannot use them properly. I'm sure I accidentally changed some setting as it was working before. Surprisingly I cannot find any similar problem on the web, so I'm asking here. When I create a new document, I can add e. g. shapes like rectangles and ellipses and I can create curves using the pen, pencil and brush tools. But I cannot add nodes using the node tool or text using the text tool. When I click in the document nothing happens. But if I click a rectangle with the text tool selected, I can type inside the rectangle. So it seems I did some kind of setting to those tools that only allows them to select an existing object and not edit the document directly. Sorry for that silly problem which is really a beginner's problem I guess, but I cannot proceed learning and leaving the beginner state without solving it. Gnobelix
Hello @kratzbaumkordel, Welcome to this forum. I suspect that the Layer is protected. A screenshot with all the settings visible could help understand the problem. kratzbaumkordel
Thank you for the welcome and the reply @Gnobelix. I have just tried something as a reaction to your message and solved the problem myself by chance. It seems I had the second text tool option active where I can only drag a frame to write into instead of just clicking. The problem with the other tools were just a misunderstanding of how to use them. Thanks again for making me solve the problem.

GarryP
Welcome to the forums @Redbeard91141 Do you have a document open? You need to have an open document before you can do anything with it, including selecting a tool. If you do have a document open, can you show us a full-screen screenshot? walt.farrell
You have the Configure Tools dialog option. You need to Close that before you can work. The button is at the bottom of the dialog.
