Backboneslashing Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Hello everyone, So I have a bunch of images with some typography on it, which shall be placed in a content safe area. In my case content safe should be 5% away from all edges. Is there a way to show these 5% with guidelines, so that I can easily see content-safeness for my elements? How would you do this? Thank you in advance! Quote

Old Bruce Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Your term Content Safe implies that the printer / press cannot print on the paper for a particular distance from the edges of the paper. I would think that would be an actual fixed distance, not a percentage which will make your Content Safe distance vary with the size of the paper. This will lead to disappointment, use the actual distance, inches or mm or points or whatever. Use Margins to show the distance. Old Bruce Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Okay, I will let you do the arithmetic for the various sizes. Then when you have finished with the arithmetic make some preset sizes in the New file dialog box. And why does this preclude the possibility of marking a "safe area" using Margin or Guide? Is there a way to show these 5% with guidelines, I'd place an object with the Rectangle Tool in full image size –> then scale it via the Transform Panel by typing "-5%" in the width/height field after the current value and unit, e.g. "1000 px-5%" results in "950 px". Apply to the rectangle layer a stroke (no fill) with a desired color, optionally use a different layer blend mode to influence its visibility bit more depending on the background. Lock and hide this layer as wanted. Consider whether you really want to apply the margin as percentage in both vertical AND horizontal direction, since if the format isn't square it would result in different margin widths for v & h.
