tyee Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I am new to Affinity Photo. PhotoShop refugee escaping the "Cloud." This photo was captioned very easily in PS, but I cannot figure out how to accomplish the same result in Affinity Photo. Not interested in flowery type, just straight forward captioning for my Blog articles. When I tried, I got massive spacing between lines! Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. walt.farrell Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. Using the Frame Text Tool, draw a frame over the image, where you want the caption. Type your caption. Given that you have multiple lines, how are you ending them? If you use Enter (Return) you will create a new paragraph, and sometimes the paragraph definition is setup to include space between paragraphs, typically 1 line (e.g., 12 pt if you're using a 12 pt font size). So you might also need to open the Paragraph panel (View > Studio > Paragraph) and adjust the "space after paragraph" setting to 0: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Old Bruce Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 You could get away with making two Paragraph Styles one called Titles and the second called Copyright. Choose the font and set the space between paragraphs to 0 (zero). Myself I would make more, I would have Title, Second line and then Copyright and Email . The Title and Second line would start out being the same, base Second line on Base but change nothing but the name. Same for Copyright and Email. Save them in a blank document called Caption Styles and you can import them or set them to be the defaults for the application. tyee Posted November 25, 2021 Author Posted November 25, 2021 (edited) walt.farrell Thank you for taking the time to respond to my S.O.S. You are a life saver! I spent hours screwing around with this topic, including countless hours of YouTube's. But found no answers. Even bought a book from Amazon, which I returned for full refund! What's more, fiddling around with this setting allows one to SEE the leading move up or down! One final thing; in PS Elements 2020, you have ready access to arrows, pointing fingers, compass roses, etc. Does Affinity have such a portal? (version 1.10.4) Old Bruce: Great ideas that I will have to learn! You both get an extra drum stick! Attached is the "Affinity" version of the same processed with PS Elements 2020, which I got locked out of when I had to effect a rebuild of Win 10 21H1, forcing me to the "Cloud." I submit, if you are working 9-5 with decent income; great, pay for the cloud treatment. But us Septuagenarians and Octogenarians, living on a shrinking income, need a "senior citizen discount." I am eternally grateful for your help — and believe Karma will reward you should you run into a processing problem. Old Bruce: Thank you for taking the time to respond to my S.O.S. Since I accomplished this by merely formatting size type on the fly, I will explore your suggestion once my log jam is cleared. Again, the attached test file was accomplished through your guidance on Affinity, following my work flow through to my Blog. Edited November 25, 2021 by tyee walt.farrell 1 Quote

I'm not familiar with PSE, so I'm not sure exactly what you're asking about. Sorry, but I'll have to defer to someone else for an answer. No, but there is an Arrow Tool & for curve objects you can add a variety of arrowhead shapes if you click on the Stroke item in the context toolbar & in the stroke option choices that pops up, change the "Start:" or "End:" properties. There are also a variety of shapes available in the Assets > iOS 12 section.
