Are any of these packages available in "hard" or "boxed" format, that is, on disk? I have a slow rural broadband speed in Britain and downloading huge files is just an impossibility. I cannot handle the free trial offer, sadly, the file would take hours and hours to download.  My computer is a desktop, I can't simply pick it up and go elsewhere to find a faster broadband connection.

I see that I can only contact the company via Twitter and facebook, neither of which are any use to me because I'm not a member.

I didnt want to go through the purchase process only to find that there is no boxed alternative to the download.

Was interested in the Photo one.

You can also email affinity@serif.com.

Serif doesn’t offer boxed versions of the Affinity apps. Is there a library you can visit to download the software? Is mobile broadband an option for you?

That is a pity, then if it's not boxed. The thing is,even if I download the software, it would have to go straight onto the computer that will be actually using the software, and that's my desktop PC. It's not a portable piece of equipment, being a tower-case style and a 24" monitor. I can't carry that into a library.

Mobile broadband isn't available, I'm in a "black hole" with regards to reception. It would mean I have to spend out for a portable laptop, which I don't really want to do, just to get a photo-processing program. My desktop PC is only two years old,  16GB RAM, reasonably powerful and plenty good enough for the job.

Oh well. Serif will have lost a potential customer then.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to look elsewhere.

Unless I'm mistaken, you can download from the Serif Store directly to a USB drive (minimum 1GB, just to be sure), then bring that USB drive home, insert it into your home desktop, and install from there.
Just be sure to login to the Serif store without saving your login details to the other computer, so that no-one else can login as you after you leave.

Right....well that would be helpful if that is correct. I've had one or two things downloaded recently (from elsewhere, for other reasons) that have tried to install themselves on my memory-stick, with expected dire results.

I think, since Alfred above has been kind enough to give me a proper email address, I will contact Serif and ask them if the download-to-memory stick will be ok to then transfer to my Windows PC. It must be feasible, surely. Otherwise I'm completely shut out of ever being able to use/buy anything.

You don’t need to install anything on the USB drive (and the Affinity applications won’t try to do that), just use it as a download location – it’s just somewhere to put the EXE installation file until you need to install the application to your local hard drive.

As you say, Serif will have the facts about what is possible so they will be able to give you the best advice, and hopefully add that advice here for anyone else looking for the same solution.

(I think most modern software is download-only these days, basically because it saves on a boat-load of costs – physical duplication, printing, shipping, etc.)

I can appreciate the reasons for download, and no boxed goods. Unfortunately maybe they don't realise that not everyone in the UK is on ultra-fast broadband, nor indeed is it even likely to be made available by OpenReach to many locations for some years yet. I'll contact them now and see what they say. With thx.

One other thing that is worth mentioning is that updates from the Serif Store are always whole-application updates and not little patches.
You may need to factor in multiple visits to the other computer if you want to keep your software up-to-date – updates are issued every few months, or thereabouts.

Great. Serif has replied to my email, to confirm that it is ok to download onto a memory stick and then set the file up on my desktop computer. I'll be trying that out in the next day or so. Apparently the installation proceeds without requiring internet connection, so that part of it should be ok.

As for the updates, I think I'll be able to work something out to handle that.
