I am a beginner at Affinity photo so please be patient with me. Up until today when I make a selection within a photo the history states "set current selection" and I can copy paste into a new layer and edit just that selection. Now when I make a selection the history states "make current raster selection" I don't see any selected outline and can't create a new layer. Please help me I can not figure out how to get back to "set current selection" I have tried quick mask but the edits aren't being applied to the selection as as I intend them to.

Also if anyone would care to explain what rastering is that too would be fun...

Hi Cafindlay,

Welcome to the forums :)

As far as I'm aware "set current selection" occurs when you select an object via the Move Tool and "set current Raster selection" occurs when you use a selection marquee tool to make a pixel selection. I dont think the difference in history names is causing this issue because I think this behaviour has always been the case. Please could you provide a screen recording showing your selection issue?

Thanks

Thank you for the kind suggestions, In the past I have often used the marquee tool to make a simple regions and copied those region in to a new layer to edit them separately. Now after some playing around when I use the marquee tool I only get regions of a predetermined size that I can not change and the actual region copied is much larger then what I created and as you can see is not a clear region as depicted in the screenshots. I am very confused please help

Looks you had set a large feather value with the selection tool active before drawing the selection.

thank you Tomaso yes that did happen, I don't know how but thank you for pointing it out. Removing the Feather definitely helped.

And thank you everyone for your suggestions. Slowly I am figuring things out again
