I've been trying to get the posterize adjustment layer to well, posterize my image, but it's not working as expected. It mostly posterizes the image, but certain parts still have a smooth transition of color for some reason. The layer is on top of all other layers, and the issue persists using effects or rasterized layers.

Hello @sweeetjd, and welcome to the forums.

It would help if you would provide  your platform (Windows, Mac or iPad), and the version of Photo you are using.

Could you also provide a screenshot of your Layers panel and of the Context toolbar.

It would help if you could upload the afphoto file.

however, i can  reproduce  the issue by using Layer FX, Gaussian blur on e.g. a vector shape.

The issue is resulting from partial transparent pixels. You need all pixels full opaque to avoid the issue. The best way to achieve this depends on the actual document content, e.g.:

  • adding a Channels Adjustment, select Alpha, set offset to 100%
  • add a fill layer with suitable color as bottom layer
