Lincoln Cathedral Aerial Illustration

Archangel

Recommended Posts

Here is an Unsplash Image of Lincoln Cathedral given the gmic Affinty Hdr treatment.

Use the original image ...

Then use the G'MIC plugin and save different versions of the image, always beginning with the original image, using ...

Color - Autobalance

Artistic - Illustration Look

Black and White - Engraving,

Export each image separately. I recommend using PNG for lossless compression.

Then using HDR Merge, import all the separate images including the original and allow Affinity Photo to create the composite image. Use the Tone Map as detailed or dramatic.

Then adjust the image in the develop persona tweaking the Black Point +10, then tweak the vibrancy and saturation until you get the colour effect you desire. Then develop the image and save it to a format you prefer.

Voilà ... and you will get the illustrated effect as shown.

Quite impressive!

I recommend playing with the engraving GMIC plug in to get the best detail effects by tweaking coherence, density and radius.

Also getting a higher resolution original image will help maximize the detail of the output. PhotoZoom is a very useful tool for quality enlargements.

Good fun playing with this thanks for the directions. For any other "novice" AP users like me dont get caught with the Serif teminology.

Having applied the various Gmic filters I couldn't use the HDR merge - the photos need to be exported as .jpg not saved as .aphoto files. Obvious to most but not to us simpletons!!

Sorry, I should have said export rather than save. I prefer using PNG to prevent encroaching JPG artifacts creeping in.  PNG uses lossless compression.

You might want to experiment with other black and white gmic plugins. Multi layer etch and pencil portrait may offer alternatives to the engraving style.

You could also experiment with the stack function in Affinity Photo instead of the HDR Merge. It offers more subtle adjustments.

In fact my apologies as you do state export. I was too eager to have a go maybe🙂
