Affinity Designer cannot place/import indd or idml files but Affinity Publisher will place/import idml files

Affinity Designer is vector graphic based, Affinity Publisher is for magazines, books, leaflets etc and to complete the trilogy, Affinity Photo is raster images, photo editing etc.

I didn't really know the difference in Affinity Publisher and Design.

You were probably misled by the similarity between the names ‘Designer’ and ‘InDesign’. The former is vector graphics software like Adobe Illustrator; the latter is page layout software like Affinity Publisher.

Thank you Alfred. I believe Affinity Publisher may work better with Indesign. It would really help to be able to work in Affinity, and still be able to work with a team that works in InDesign. Like I have been able to do with Affinity Photo and save in a Photoshop format. I know it's not perfect, but at least it is editable. Thanks

You’re obviously looking for IDML export to complement the IDML import capability. Let’s hope that will be added at some point.

But Publisher will unfortunatly not open indd-files, only idml. Maybe in the future. Don't know.
