Publisher colors not exporting the same

Recommended Posts

Hello! So in affinity publisher, I have a photo of an illustration with a solid color background and I wanted the background to fill a larger space while keeping the illustration the same size. So I used the shape tool (behind the photo layer) around the photo, and used the color picker tool to make the shape the same color.

the issue I’m having is once I try to export the page, the color of the shape changes slightly while the color of the photo stays the same.

does anyone know what might be happening?

thank you so much in advanced!

Hard to tell from your three sentences… ;)
Example files will tell more than a thousand words.

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

This may be caused by a few variables, such as the colour space/profile in use for the document, the profile being used when exporting and whether you have a colour profile applied to your monitor through your OS - but as loukash has mentioned above it is much easier for us to investigate issues with a sample of the file you're having trouble with.

Could you please provide a copy of this here, alongside a screenshot of your Export settings, including the 'More...' dialog. Many thanks in advance!

sorry about that! I attatched some photos this time. Basically, I'm trying to expand the illustration's (photo's) background with the shape tool. To get the same color as the background, I used the color pickeraffinity test colors 3.pdf.  after I export the page, the shape's color is different from the photocolors example.pdf. I tried this again with an unfinished illustration to demonstrate it's results.affinity color test 1.pdfaffinity test colors 2.pdf

As noted by @Dan C, probably an RGB vs CMYK color space mismatch at some point. Still hard to tell without having an example afpub document.

Thanks for these PDF files Kaylee, this is certainly a strange issue you're seeing - we'd like to see a copy of one of your Affinity files, as this will show us the Colour Space, Profile and other settings within the file that may be causing this, otherwise we'd have to keep guessing until we get it right!

Can you also please navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance and provide a screenshot of your settings here?

Many thanks in advance :)

My sincerest apologies for the delayed response here @Kaylee, as I have been out of the office for a little over a week.

The screenshot is perfect, thank you - however I still need a copy of the Affinity file itself to be certain of the issue here;

Your .afpub file, @Kaylee. With the actual file, rather than a screenshot, we can see all the various settings that might affect the processing.

Right, I’m sorry, I forgot. I’m not seeing .afpub as an export option in affinity publisher. Just png, jpeg, gif, tiff, psd, pdf, svg, wmf, eps, exr, hdr, and tga.

.afpub is the native format; you get it when you Save, not when you Export.

Many thanks for your file @Kaylee and my apologies for the delayed response!

I can see your document is setup using CMYK using the U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 profile, if you export the document from Affinity using a different format/ICC profile then this can cause changing in colour from the document rendered in Affinity.

Could you please provide a screenshot of your export settings in Affinity, including the 'More...' options?

Do you know if you have an ICC profile applied to your monitor, through your OS? :)
