Data merge, choice of image destination internet or local source.

Recommended Posts

I would like to have the choice of making a link to an image from the local disk also from an internetsource, directory. Now it's not possible. I have a lot of images online. I would like te use a link to that source in data merge. So instead of C://images/2021 i would like to use https://mydatadisk.com/images/2021/march/water.jpg.

So a xls-sheet looks like:

excel-sheet-abstract.png.9cf1885f7e47b4056842a9605be84617.png

In the cell 'Afbeelding' image, i entered a path to the file. Why can't it be an internetadress?

So i wish you can make this possible. It would make APP zo much powerfull.

Regards

Jan

In your image of the XLSX sheet you show a web address. In your text description you used https://mydatadisk/images/2021/march/water.jpg which looks like a file on a local server (mydatadisk) not something on the Internet. I just wanted to confirm which you are requesting.

Yes, I know that you can have a directory structure. However, your https://mydatadisk/images/2021/march/water.jpg is missing the domain suffix (.com, etc.) which makes the request a bit confusing, in my opinion. That's why I asked for clarification. It seems that you're trying to access a local disk via a web address.

Further to Walt's replies I get a Can't find the server for the first link in the first post and a 404 for the second link in the second post  So I think that you have made some basic mistake in the address which is why Publisher is not finding the images.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I can use data merge for:

  • local files, such as "c:/users/walt/documents/walt-for-dp.jpg"
  • and for files on a local network drive, such as "\\\\MYCLOUDPR2100\\mobile-photos\\walt\\Chihuly at Meijer\\pict0720.jpg"

But not for something like "https://cdn.serif.com/affinity/img/store/designer/card-220520191824@2x.jpg" which I know is a valid, viewable image on the web. So I believe there is no support for merging images from the web in the current data merge implementation.
