AD 1.9.1 & The Contour Tool …

Recommended Posts

Yes yes, back again with yet another baffling question which stands in the way of Complete World Domination. The topic is: Metaballs & Their Creation. No, not MEATballs - those go with spaghetti … or tortellini … or farfalle … whatever. No - these are METAballs, and based on the information garnered from watching tutes which use the Beta 1.9 release, there's a Contour Tool which doesn't seem to be in my 1.9.1 toolset. There's the usual grouping of Move, Artboard, Point Xform, Node Tool, Corner & Pen tools, but – alas et alacque! – no sign anywhere of the Mighty Contour Tool.

Should it be there? is Question Nr 01. Was it removed? is Question Nr Dos. Is it installable? is Query Nr 03. Where to find it? is Inquiry Nr 04. Yes, I know … there are many questions. I'm sorry. Really. But if it should be there, it would be ever so much nicer to be able to use it than to regret its omission. All hints, tips, suggestions, etc appreciated and welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Time now to return to the Never-Ending Question for World Domination … it's a thankless task, y' know - no one appreciates the Little Things anymore … if you'd like to see where the Mysterious Yet Somehow Magically Semi-Permanent Vanishing Contour Tool is / was / should be / might be / perhaps / may be located, this vid points out the location. It's almost like geocaching … but diff'rent.

Here's a screencap from my AD 1.9.1 d/l and install – the Contour Tool isn't shown as an available option …2013786522_ScreenShot2021-03-09at21_00_50PM.png.2d35e978b51c9ecf82cacf1610a924d7.png

Adding to the confusion, this screen grab clearly indicates not only the presence but the FUNCTIONS of the Contour Tool - which would be nice IF it were actually in the Toolbox …

I don't have version 1.9 installed yet, so just a tip - try the tool settings (View menu). Maybe this tool is hidden by default.

In the first screengrab, you will find Contour Tool in the keyboard shortcut listings if you click on Tools.

The entries below that (Move Tool, Node Tool, etc.) are for tools which have additional shortcuts available to trigger actions from their Context Toolbars. Some tools have additional shortcuts for their Context Toolbar functions, and some don't. The Contour Tool doesn't, so it's not in that list.

Hello again and thanks for your input. The Contour Tool appears to be, as suggested, in the Tools menu with a shortcut of ‘O’ to activate. A screencap is attached for reference. This tool also has an ‘x’ in a circle to the right of the shortcut letter. Does it indicate the tool is NOT active? Will clicking the 'x' place it in the Toolbox toolstrip? IS there a way to include it in the Toolbox strip? So many questions, so little thyme … thanks again.

All shortcuts have that. It's how you would delete the shortcut.

As mentioned above, View > Customize Tools.

Thanks, Walt … I think I've had my ‘Duh!’ moment for the month now … I shoulda realised that, right … ? It'd still be nice if it would appear (as if by Majique) with the rest of the tools instead of being made to stand in the quadrangle as if it had been The Bad Boy in class. ‘Customize Tools’ offers only the single keyboard shortcut ‘O’ and no option to add it to the Toolbox. That's probably a Win-only option not found in AppleWorld …
