Designer crashs when opening print-dialog

Recommended Posts

Hello,

please have a look to the attched file. Everytime I klick on File...Print (Datei...Drucken - I have the german version installed) the Programm crashes.

Maybe I've made the mistake by myself because there are two artboards and some objects outside of them. When I delete the Objects outside the artboards it crashes too at starting the printdialog.

Thank you for your help.

I get the same thing here on Windows 10 - Designer 1.9.0.932.

  • Open the file in Designer;
  • Select menu “File”;
  • Select menu item “Print..”;
  • The application crashes and stops running after a couple of seconds pause with no error message.

I managed to get the Print Dialog to come up by deleting everything – leaving only the two empty artboards – so there’s probably a dodgy layer in there somewhere but it might take time to track down which.

First I created one rectanlge on each artboard and deleted all the other Objects. The same - it crashes. Maybe it's an fault in generally when trying to Print a document with artbords.

Then I created an new artboard a liitle bigger than the two and deleted the two. Now the dokument is Paper without that artboard and it can be printed.

And now I figured out the problem: on each artbord there was an original "Esso" Logo. I deleted it only on One Artboard on the other I forgot it. This logo has had an opacity of 75 %. After increasing it to 100 % printing dialog starts without crash. After decreasing it again to 75 % ist also prints.

So I think it's not a problem of designer but of my file or the Logo in it. Very interesting is that the logo isn't shown on the Workspace. There's only a Picture-placeholder an you can see it in the layers panel.

There should be no problem printing a document with artboards – it’s a perfectly acceptable thing to do.
(If the application wasn’t designed to print artboards then the menu item should be greyed out so you can’t do it, rather than just crashing.)
Either way, crashing should not be expected behaviour.

I am a new user of Publisher - all of a sudden everytime i try to print, it crashes.  I've restarted, reinstalled Publisher, etc. Don't know what else to try. I just uninstalled and reinstalled again and it still crashes.  I’m running Windows 10 version 20H2 on a  Dell Ultrabook.

Same thing happens to me after upgrading.

A new blank document will print.

A new document with contents copied from old document prints.

Possibly if I try a print a document where teh artboard size doesn't match a standard paper size?

Any help appreciated.

Hi @RainerH, @Caran & @ray223,

Apologies for the delayed response here and I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing crashing when printing in Affinity.

I can confirm this issue has been identified and fixed in our latest beta, I was able to download and Print (Print to PDF) your document without the app crashing.

Can you please try downloading the latest beta version from the below link, then install this alongside your retail version so that you have 2 versions of the Affinity app installed.

Once installed, create a copy of your document and try printing this in the beta - does this resolve the crashing for you? :)
