spodzone
I've seen this on several images, but the general trend is: 1) make a nice big image sensitive to detail (80MPel+, starting from 32-bit TIFF sources) 2) spend lots of time refining, adding adjustment layers to control that detail - eg min blur adjustment layer with luminosity masking, overlay/blend layers with gradient masking, clarity adjustment layer, high-pass sharpening, diffusion blur, etc 3) export JPEG 100% size q=99% sRGB lanczos3-separable 4) despair!! The attached is the most recent - a couple of nebulae, so obviously sensitive to star detail. I don't even have to say the output image (left, seen in Preview.app) bears no resemblance to what I thought I'd edited in Affinity. In the past I've had similar overlaying multiple texture layers of snow - some layers rotated and shrunk with a gradient mask for greater density of snow in certain areas of the frame. Whilst editing, it looks seamless, but on export, the edges of the overlaid image show through like a sore thumb. This happens both on macOS and iOS. On the mac, I've tried setting the retina display preferences to higher quality and restarting but the edit/export disparity remains drastic. Staff MEB Posted February 4, 2021 Staff Share Posted February 4, 2021 Hi @spodzone, Welcome to Affinity Forums When comparing images, please make sure you are doing it at 100% zoom/same size. See my post here for an explanationof why what you see on Affinity Photo on zoom levels below 100% isn't accurate enough to judge/compare images. If you still see differences between the image in app and the exported file when compared in these conditions (100% zoom) then there may be some issue we must take a look at. In that case please attach the original afphoto file as well as the exported image for us to check. spodzone
OK, so when I zoom in to 100% in Affinity, after a few seconds' delay the image repaints much more in accordance with the exported version - bright points appear and then disappear due to the minimum filter. So the problem is that the downsampling in the main window and tiny navigation thumbnail do not reflect the image. This drastically affects whatever exposure/brightness/curves I might need to polish the image, meaning I would have to apply them at 100% zoom. http://misc.sty.nu/HeartSoul-RGB-Ha-HOO-6.afphoto.zip shows the problem well. Staff Chris B Posted February 5, 2021 Staff Share Posted February 5, 2021 I would also avoid resampling on export OR go to Document > Flatten and then resample. Check at 100% that everything looks ok and export. spodzone
The only resampling happening here is when Affinity tries to display the image. Fit-to-window is radically different from 100%.
