Publisher: Colour Palette; Re - Global colour and Gradient

Recommended Posts

Two questions please:

1. The first screen shot shows when I simply clicked on Blue and filled the Square shape.  The second screen shot shows when I clicked on a global colour as referenced by the last colour in the swatchs that has a littke white "thing" bottom left. QUESTION: When is a global colour not a global colour since both clicks produced the same result? Bit confused as to what defines a global colour here.

2. QUESTION, earlier on I used the Gradient fill tool (simply called "fill tool"):  for one colour this makes sense when you drag out a box or fill a box and apply it, BUT, I also accidently managed somehow to create a gradient that went from bluish through to reddish without being able to fathom out how on earth I achieved this within that same square box. I remember clicking on one colour then another, but what happened in between I have no idea since I was practising things too quickly to take note.

EDIT:  Is this the way to create a gradient of two colours ormore by creating several boxes within each othe or is there a more professional way to do this?

Microsoft - Like entering your home and opening the stainless steel kitchen door, with a Popup: 'Do you really want to open this door'? Then looking for the dishwasher and finding it stored in the living room where you have to download a water supply from the app store, then you have to buy microsoft compliant soap, remove the carpet only to be told that it is glued to the floor.. Don't forget to make multiple copies of your front door key and post them to all who demand access to all the doors inside your home including the windows and outside shed.

Apple - Like entering your home and opening the oak framed Kitchen door and finding the dishwasher right in front you ready to be switched on, soap supplied, and water that comes through a water softener.  Ah the front door key is yours and it only needs to open the front door.

A global color is one that you have added to a Document Palette as a global color.

You can't tell by looking at an object on the screen whether it's fill is global or not, as far as I know. But the effect of assigning a global color as a fill is that if you edit the global color swatch and change its color, all the objects that have used that swatch will also change. That won't happen with a non-global color.

Appreciate this Walt and thankyou.

Just discovered my own answer to the multi coloured gradient question I posted, just far too impatient with myself .....

I did read ot some hours before posting, but sometimes, written instructions go over my head, even the apparantly simplist ones, that's just me, when you spend so much time reading reading reading, things get over-looked as well, especially when they are explained so formally.  But thanks for the input Psenda.

I know that too 🙂
I don't know if this is the case of Global color (I would have to look at home), but for these purposes are quite good and beneficial Affinity Workbooks, which describes the use of individual tools/functions with respect to a particular type of work/project, so it may climb better and easier into the head.
