Joachim_L Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 When I try to open the attached PSD with AP I get the error message "The file type is not supported". Maybe the Affinity applications should be more informative like "Sorry, currently we do not support Duplex files" or something similar? psd-sonderfarbe.psd Quote ------ Windows 10 | i5-8500 CPU | Intel UHD 630 Graphics | 32 GB RAM | Latest Retail and Beta versions of complete Affinity range installed
fde101 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 It's not just the Affinity products that won't open this. Corel Painter: "The file must be grayscale or RGB." The old version of Pixelmator I have claims the document is damaged or incompatible. Preview (macOS) shows it as a 200x200 pixel "Gray" color space image, just a plain gray square. GIMP seems to render it the same way. OpenOffice Draw also shows the plain gray square - not sure if that is what it should be? QuarkXPress 2018 shows it as a plain square in some color that is not quite gray. Here are some details on the format according to GIMP: So there is a mixed bag of some programs that are ok with it and others that claim it is invalid or unsupported in some way. Corel Painter claims it is neither grayscale nor RGB but GIMP and macOS Preview both claim it is grayscale. There does seem to be something a bit unusual about the way this file was written then... i do find it curious that GIMP is reading this as a grayscale image but also giving it an sRGB colorspace and listing three color components in the number of bits per sample - something there doesn't quite seem to add up? fde101 Posted June 11, 2020 Posted June 11, 2020 Ok, so evidently the three color components and sRGB is normal for opening a grayscale image in GIMP - not sure why but if I export a grayscale image from Affinity Photo as a PSD and import into GIMP I get the same. However, the numeric "ColorMode" for the attached image was 8, while the one exported from Affinity Photo is 1, though both are showing as "8-bit gamma integer" / "Grayscale" according to GIMP: Also, the one exported from Affinity Photo opens flawlessly in Painter. Joachim_L Posted June 11, 2020 Author Posted June 11, 2020 I do not complain about the inability to import duotone, I "complain" about the generic error message. To some point Affinity reads the file to judge, that the format is not supported, so the error message could tell the real reason?
