Affinity Photo Crashes on iPad Pro

Syno

Recommended Posts

Hey,

i bought the iOS version of Affinity Photo on my iPad Pro (3rd gen) today and it keeps crashing everytime i try to import a photo. It's not even because of a specific file, I just click on "Import from Photos" and after 2 seconds the whole app just crashes. Its happening everytime. It's not happening on my older iPad Air.

Hope you can replicate the bug and fix it, otherwise the app is not really usable.

Have you tried a hard reset. Hold power button off until you get the close slider. Close and restart. This will clear ram but won’t lose data. Affinity may be holding some corrupted data from install. Anyway, resetting is always worth a try. 🙂

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately this didn't help either, I just looked at the reviews in the App Store to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong or am the only one the problem affects. Apparently this is a common bug since the last update, as there are hundreds of one star ratings with the same problem...

This is definitely not normal behaviour. Answers to all the following  questions may help narrow down the issue.
What type of photo are you importing?
Where do you have the photo stored?
How are you attempting to import the photo into Affinity photo?

Could you do a screen recording to show what is happening and attach it to your post. Also turn on show touches in AP settings as it allows mods to see what you are tapping and when.

Heres how to setup screen recording. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207935

Could you also attach the crash reports generated by Affinity Photo. That might also pinpoint any issues. You’ll find them under Privacy Analytics and the files will be named Photo IPad xxxxxx or similar (.ips files)

- I am trying to import the photo through the plus in the upper right corner and than by clicking on "import through photos"

i tried to do the screen recording but its just gone when the app crashes, thats why i recorded my tablet with my phone. The videos are attached

Can you access share your ips crash reports to Notes or similar. Then attach to post for mods to review. Might give the developers some clues as to what is happening.

A few things to try:

Can you open an image from other than photo library? Try.

Next, It might seem silly but try changing language setting to English and see if it still crashes. There a bug affecting brushes that is language dependant, so anything is possible.

This sounds a lot like an issue I had a few weeks ago, but mine was not in Affinitty Photo, but when using any resource-intensive app. When was crashing, it was taking the Screen Recording app down with it, and nothing saved. Could not figure out what was it, but a restart of the iPad fixed it. But yeah, I was about to say just what DM1 suggested. :)

I have searched for the .ips files but could not find any for Affinity Photo.
Privacy -> Analytics -> Analytics Data

I searched the data for the correct date and could not find any entries (in case the program was listed differently than with Photo XXX)

So unfortunately there are no crash reports.

Did you manage to this is issue solved?  Im currently having the same problem with Affinity designer and i can work out whats happening

I can import image from the cloud, just not from photos.

It also works if i change the settings to be able to  import selected images, but if i change it back to 'all images' in the settings, it crashes

Looking at screen recordings you are showing version 1.8.3. Try updating to current release Version 1.9
