Vector brush stroke taper

If I create a solid brush in Designer with predefined tapered edges, I cannot get neither the pencil nor brush tool to draw such brush with taper, it will only create a solid brush. If the pressure profile gets added with taper then I do get the expected taper. What is the point of making a brush with these settings if it can't be drawn as set without help from the pressure profile?

Are you using a pressure-sensitive device (like a Wacom drawing tablet) to draw with?

If not, you will have to use the pressure profile.

Sometimes I do sometimes I don't. Depends on what I'm drawing.

When you are using a brush or pencil tool, what is the context toolbar "Controller" option set to use?

That means it won't respond to pressure changes!

You need to set it to one of the other controller modes, probably the default "Automatic" one. See the Brush Tools help topic, Controller section for more about that.

I want a predefined brush stroke with a taper. Not one that I have to use pressure with a tablet.

Use the pressure window in the Stroke Panel after selecting the curve/line/stroke.

That won't make it predefined like the OP wants, but at least on a per document basis it can be saved as a profile.
