Transparency Tool vs Gradient Tool

Recommended Posts

I am just curious why Transparency Tool and Gradient Tool were broken out as separate tools.

Isn't the Transparency tool just a gradient with a no fill (0% opacity) on one end?

The reason i believe, is because it's much more flexible (and powerful) having them separated. In illustrator the transparency is tied to the gradient colours and both will have to "run" in the same direction. In affinity Designer you can have a gradient developing vertically and the transparency developing horizontally with more or less control points than the gradient (or vice-versa) for example. This gives much more granularity and control over the effects you can achieve.

Some PC apps have supported this for years like Xara Designer and even Serif Drawplus.
