I'm used to Silkypix and only on the trial version of Affinity.  A totally new concept and not at all sure I want to work with layers etc., (I've always had a hatred of them from years back) but one big question I cannot find an answer to anywhere:

Is it possible to open a folder of images so a grid with all of them is displayed as thumbnails, from which any image can be displayed full size, or is Affinity strictly a single image at a time program?  One of the reasons I want this is to use a batch conversion say from RAW to jpeg.  Can't see any way of batching without first creating a macro (maybe I just haven't found it yet) but in any event how do you select multiple images to batch if you cannot actually see them?

Thanks

Unfortunately this isn't a feature of Affinity Photo - it's designed as a singular image editor. We hope to implement this functionality into a potential DAM application in the future, although we have no timescale/guarantees for this currently, my apologies.

You can use File>New Batch Job to convert multiple RAW files into JPEG, as this functionality has been improved for 1.8. You can either batch process with a macro, or without. Without using a Macro, AP will apply the best 'auto' develop options to your images.

You can find a tutorial on Batch Processing below - https://player.vimeo.com/video/202893201/

I hope this helps!

Hi Dan,

Any update to the displaying of multiple images in thumbnails please?  I am currently using the 90 day trial and there are some very good features, but I have two decide whether to upgrade my Silkypix or make the break to Affinity.  I don't want two.

Unless anyone can suggest a workaround, this issue is a real killer for me as I cannot imaging working without being able to see all images in a particular folder to select one to work on.

Thanks

Why not use something like Irfanview or XM Viewer? (Both free) You can see all your pictures, thumbnails and full size, then open in Affinity Photo from there. Works well for me! 😉

Thanks Paul - it would work and I had already figured I could that with Silkypix, but to be honest it's clunky and unwieldy as I have to remember file numbers to open in them Affinity.  Would be so much easier if thumbnails of all images in a folder were available within the one program and clicked-on as needed.  A pity but it is a dealbreaker for me.

Thanks again

@LennyLion

I don't know Silkypix but if it functions in a similar way to other DAM apps there is usually a setting such that the user can select one, or more, apps that are already installed on the computer to be the "editor of choice" such that, when clicking on the image one of the options available is something like "Edit in (in this case) Affinity Photo".

Can such a setting be created in Silkypix?

Thanks Jeff - I'm fairly sure not, but a good idea.  Silkypix is a full editor itself so I guess it would be unlikely they would want to direct customers to Affinity.  I've had a good look in the settings and no such feature that I can find.

I find it baffling that a nice, reasonably priced program like Affinity can't display a folder of images as thumbnails.  I would have thought that would be a basic command that everyone would need.
