R C-R Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Should there be a Basic brushes category with just 2 brushes in the Designer Persona? I am almost certain I had more than 2 basic brushes in 1.7.3. Staff Gabe Posted February 26, 2020 Staff Posted February 26, 2020 Hi @R C-R, I split this into it's own thread. The "basic" category has been merged into the "Pens" category. What you currently see are brushes that you've customised. Any "default" brushes you had in 1.7 were replaced by the new 1.8 brushes. Quote
R C-R Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 I am not sure I understand how this is supposed to work. I just imported the Basic raster brush category into 1.8 that I had previously exported from 1.7.3 as a backup, which contained the original 21 basic brushes from 1.6. Comparing those brushes to the new Pens category, there are only 2 that are similar, one "Solid Pen with Pressure" & one "Solid Pen with Pressure & Opacity," but only one of them has the same default size as the older version. From what I can tell, there has been no merging of the Basic raster brushes in the AD Pixel Persona. Does all this sound like it is working as intended? But I have no easy way of checking that last thing -- I think I added more than 2 to Designer & probably to APu, but I can't be certain about that. If I had just known that the Basics vector category was going to be removed before updating the apps I could have avoided the confusion this has caused & the time I wasted trying to figure out what happened, but if this was ever mentioned anywhere in the announcement topics I missed it. Managing brush categories across 3 apps & multiple personas is already difficult enough. This change has not made it any easier. Staff Gabe Posted February 27, 2020 Staff Posted February 27, 2020 None of the Default brushes should be ported over. However, any custom brushes should make it into 1.8, keeping the same category name. If you think you had custom ones that did not make it through, can you please upload your "Raster_brushes.propcol_backup1" and "vector_brushes.propcol_backup1" [here] so we can have a look? You can find them in /Users/{username}/Library/Containers/com.seriflabs.affinityphoto/Data/Library/Application Support/user/ (for Mac App Store) or /Users/{username}/Library/Application Support/Affinity Designer/user/ (For Affinity Store) R C-R 1 Quote

I have no "vector_brushes.propcol_backup1" for Photo, which I assume is to be expected, but the other 3 have been uploaded. I don't know if it means anything but my Photo "Raster_brushes.propcol_backup1" file is a bit over twice the size of my "Raster_brushes.propcol" file. Both Designer backup1 files are also much larger than their non-backup counterparts. You've not mentioned Photo at all, so not having Vector Brushes is expected. I just checked your brushes and you did not lose any custom ones, but just the 1.7 default ones, which is the expected behaviour. R C-R 1 Quote

As I mentioned, I was not sure if I had any missing custom brushes, as I have recategorized & modified them several times over the last few months. It is not a major concern for me since I currently have plenty of unused free space on my startup drive, but as I said, the 3 backup1 files are considerably larger than their regular counterparts. If in the future I need to free up more disk space, do you foresee any problems with deleting those 3 files? Staff Gabe Posted February 27, 2020 Staff Posted February 27, 2020 Deleting them will not cause any harm, as hey are not in use. They are only there in case something fails during the brush upgrade, at which point we can open them (on our end) and restore the content. R C-R 1 Quote
