Hi

I'd like to change my photo sizes to open in metric. I know that it can be changed via document > resize document. but I want to make it permanent for all new photos without having to resize every time. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Barny,

Welcome to the forums :)

There is no way to make this permanent across all documents I'm afraid. However this has been brought up in the past so it may be considered for a future update.

Thanks

Another way to do that avoids the need to open the document window: if the ruler is visible, you can right-click on the document units icon at the top left of the ruler & change the units from the popup menu that opens. It doesn't make anything permanent for new documents but it only takes a second or less to do.

That can also be done easily (2 clicks) from the Context Toolbar for the View Tool. And, conveniently, the View Tool is the default tool when opening a document in Photo. So, Open the document, click on the units drop-down, and choose the unit you want.

To be honest, I have never understood why anyone would want AP to default to the View Tool when opening an existing document or creating a new one. New & existing document files always open zoomed to fit the workspace window size anyway, so panning is never the first step in any of my workflows. My preference for the default would be either the Move Tool (to be consistent with AD & because most of my existing documents have multiple layers) or maybe the Zoom Tool.

Anyway, I like the right-click ruler icon method because it works no matter what tool is selected & it makes it very easy to change document units on-the-fly at any time during an editing session. I do that quite frequently, particularly to switch to pixels to check pixel alignment in the Transform panel & then back to inches or cm or whatever to do dimensional work.
