Tony77 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Hi I wanted to know if there is a way to align two nocturnal images of the Milky Way.I tried the stack function but unfortunately it aligns very well with the mountains and not the starsI tried the panorama function but then I don't think I can reduce noise like the photo merge function with stacking. How could I do? John Rostron Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 The stacking algorithm fails because the mountains provide a firmer edge for it to latch onto than the more nebulous Milky Way. This has been asked before. My suggestion was to blur the edges of the mountains (and any other horizon) and hope that the stars etc are sufficiently well-defined for alignment. For just1 two images, I would suggest that, rather than a Stack, you just paste one image on top of the other, set the opacity to 50% and align them manually. Tony77 Posted January 24, 2020 Author Posted January 24, 2020 I didn't remember asking for it already..... sorry I tried to manually align the images but, since the stars move radially, fixed a rotation point, I don't remember the combination of keys to rotate the whole image Quote

For multiple images, you really would need the centre of rotation. For just two, you could get away with rotation about any point and moving horizontally and vertically. Try doing a search for "star stack" (without quotes). John John Quote Windows 11, Affinity Photo 2.4.2 Designer 2.4.2 and Publisher 2.4.2 (mainly Photo). CPU: Intel Core i5 8500 @ 3.00GHz.
