Embedded lens corrections in raw files (micro Four Thirds)

Recommended Posts

Hi, new buyer here, also rather new to powerful image editing, so assume minimal experience please.

Micro Four Thirds raw files (Panasonic .RW2, Olympus .ORF) contain embedded lens correction information. Does AP apply these corrections when opening the files? If not, how do I get them to be applied?

thank you

It seems like the answer is no. I notice quite a bit more distortion in Affinity on my ORF files than I do in other RAW converters. I can only assume this is because Affinity is not applying the embedded adjustments.

For Serif: Is this a planned feature?

Hi F_WRLCK,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

There's no lens profiles just yet, that is, there are no lens profiles built into Affinity Photo for automatic lens adjustments. You can however do it manually and save the adjustment as a preset for reuse later.

This it has been requested quite a few times and is being looked into but there's no ETA for when it will be implemented/available.

Okay, but just to be clear, this isn't a request for Serif to develop a database of lens profiles. In the case of Micro 4/3s, the lens corrections required are embedded in the RAW file itself, they just need to be applied. Many MFT lenses lean pretty heavily on this being the case.

Yeah this is a huge roadblock. The micro 4/3rd system lenses all heavily rely on the built in correction profile that is embedded into the metadata of the RAW file. It needs to be recognized and applied. This is different than regular post processing lens corrections where you'd have to start from scratch with your own values.

Hi, I'd like to add to this question. The DJI Mavic Pro suffers from a reddish hot spot in the center of DNG images under certain lighting, and DJI added a vignetting correction lens profile that is now embedded in DNG files as of the latest firmware (.0600). Lightroom already recognizes and applies this, see here: http://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=redirect&goto=findpost&ptid=75707&pid=772658

Is there a similar feature in Affinity Photo? Because I can't find a way to automate this.

Hi there

Wondering if anyone can advise if support for m4/3 embedded lens profiles is on the roadmap at all?

Some of my Oly lenses aren't on Lensfun, and I'm resorting to pre-editing my photos in a different editor before doing any work in AP.
