Image wrapping on to other image

Recommended Posts

You are probably going to have to use the Displace filter in AP which is not that great at the moment.  If you upload the images you want to use someone may be able to help you better with your request.

In the meantime, this link explains one way you can investigate further ...

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

This thread shows a basic experiment I did using the Live Displace Filter: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/94580-photo-live-displace-filter-tattoos/
The trick (as far as I can remember, I may be missing some steps) was to duplicate the background image, blur it a bit, convert it to Black & White, then export that blurred B&W image and load it as the displacement map from the file (rather than use “Load Map from Layers Beneath” which doesn’t seem to work as well).
This video was a big help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svaIoTqIWdU but you will need to experiment.

For me, it was very helpful to compare the techniques used in that video to those used in this old one & this more recent one, both from Affinity.

In particular, using blend ranges instead of the the layer > screen blend mode in the old video seems like the way to go for most projects, & the final tweak in the Olivio Sarikas video of using a masked average-filtered layer to simulate ambient light seems like something with more uses than just with displace filters.

Overall, I liked the Sarikas video best, in part for his explanation that the displacement is based on brightness levels, & also because it (apparently?) shows that the “Load Map from Layers Beneath” button loads the map from the current state of those layers, so later on the pixel layer's live blur filter can be disabled without that affecting the layer that the displace filter was applied to.

Also, he gets additional points for including his cat 'helper' in the video. xD
