SidianMSJones
Every time I copy and past a vector from Affinity to Photoshop I get these white boxes appearing that are not there in the original.
Staff Dan C Posted November 20, 2019 Staff Share Posted November 20, 2019 Hi SidianMSJones Sorry to see this, could you please provide a copy of your Affinity file which contains your Vector objects? Please also open Affinity>Preferences>General. Do you have 'Copy items as SVG' enabled currently? Thanks in advance! SidianMSJones
Long time no see :). So I got around this issue before so I decided not to bother about it further, but it just keeps coming up. To answer your question, yes I do have that checked. I've attached another example of the issue.

Ron P.
I think Dan C. is asking for a copy of the afphoto file. Could you please attach it? Staff Dan C Posted April 21, 2020 Staff Share Posted April 21, 2020 @SidianMSJones My absolute sincerest apologies for the delayed reply here, work has been rather hectic recently and I must admit I've missed replying to this thread. I've tested your file and I've found that this appears to be due to the 'Passthrough' blend mode that Affinity applies to groups - I'm not certain if this is caused by an issue with Affinity, or Photoshop, but I'll be logging this with our devs for further investigation. In the meantime, if you select all of your groups and change the blend mode from Passthrough to Normal then you should find you no longer see the strange translucent boxes appear around these vectors when pasting into Photoshop. I hope this helps! EDIT - I've also just found that we handle the 'Passthrough' blend mode differently to Photoshops implementation, which is likely causing this issue. When we export to .PSD from Affinity, we automatically convert 'passthrough' to 'normal' so that this does not occur, but clearly the same is not happening for copy and pasting. Unfortunately this means it's unlikely to be something we can fix/change, as it's caused by a fundamentally different way of handling this blend mode. wonderings
These are issues that will come up with when trying to use 2 different applications. Affinity is made to work well with the other Affinity apps just as Adobe apps and files play well in the Adobe eco system. Affinity does handle files from Adobe but I would always say do so with caution.
SidianMSJones
Hey thanks guys! And no worries about not getting to me super quick. Fact is I resurrected a months old post, so I was punished for my necromancy lol. Also I think your explanation makes perfect sense and the workaround seems good enough. Not being able to copy/paste is definitely a thorn, but now it's not a deal breaker!
SidianMSJones
Hold up...I CAN copy/paste if I change the Pass Through blend modes to normal?? If so that's great.

If so that's great. That's correct, after changing all the Group's blend mode in your document from Passthrough to Normal I was able to copy and paste into Photoshop without creating the white/grey boxes around these objects. I've still logged this with our developers for further investigation, as there may be something we can change to improve this in the future. Many thanks!
