Hi everyone. I have a question about readjusting gradients in Affinity Photo. After I drag out a gradient with the gradient tool, then deselect the gradient by clicking off the layer, or selecting another tool, layer, etc. I want to come back and adjust the gradient again however the handles for the gradient no longer show up when I select the gradient tool and the layer with the gradient applied. Am I missing something? I've read the help files about editing gradients but I can't figure it out. It seems the only option is to drag a new gradient out again, and select new colors instead of adjusting the gradient I just made. I'm using version 1.3.4 from the App Store.

Thanks!

You can easily add editable gradients to layers in Affinity Designer -- just use the Fill tool (shortcut G) to apply one to a selected vector shape or mask.

Hi Aspen Excel,

You can only edit gradients applied to vector objects. If you apply a gradient to a pixel layer there's no way to edit it again, unless you use a Gradient Overlay FX Effect (but even this one can only be customised via the FX dialog, not with the gradient controls on the canvas).

Will adjustable gradient tools be a feature in an upcoming update? it will be helpful when using with live clarity filters etc.

I realize this thread is old, but I just came across it looking for an answer to the same question. I discovered the answer as a result of some things said in this post as well as the Affinity Photo help index.

I had a Fill layer that I had applied a gradient to. I did some other work and was able to go back and re-adjust the gradient by selecting my Fill layer and then selecting the gradient tool button on the left again. This brought back the gradient adjustment handles in my Fill layer.

Note that my solution here only applies to a gradient used in a Fill layer.
