KCP
I am working out rough drafts of a design idea and keep running into a problem or bug. When I select the two curve layers and subtract, the O is not cut out. I've tried several times with the same result. The only difference that I noticed is that the nodes on the O are round while those on the other letters are square. What am I missing? Please see attached screenshots. Thank you in advance for your help. KC
firstdefence
The problem is the outer curve will punch a hole the inner curve cannot be subtracted from. Divide the 'O' and use the outer curve to punch a hole. change the inner curves fill to black and boolean add the inner curve and the 7 together. PixelPest
I don´t get why it´s not working in first place, except the font might be don´t follow the winding rule which can be fixed via Layer->Fill Mode:
firstdefence
I used Arial Black Italic, works now, I had winding instead of alternate, rookie miss. PixelPest
From the look of it It seems there is already a hole in the "9". So I'm not sure why you need any Boolean operation at all.
KCP
That's a fair question, pixel pest. The reason is because I don't like the original whole shape nor its diameter. I want the hole in the shape of the size that I'm trying to cut away. On another note, what I tried to expand the original whole I'm not able to select all of the nodes and just expand it. I haven't figured out how to do that.
PixelPest
Well - then select the nodes which built the hole in the "9" and delete and try to punch out again with your shape. If it's still not "drilling" check the "fill mode". To select continous path: select 1node and hit cmd+A.
KCP
I tried that and got the same result.
PixelPest
Not sure where you got the "O" shape from. But if it's from a donut go layers->geometrie->separate shape or so - delete one shape and try again.

PixelPest
Not on my Mac right now: under Layers->Fill mode?
firstdefence
In this gif vid... I converted the text to curves Boolean divided the nine Turned off the inner curve and created a new one with the ellipse tool Positioned it and then did a Boolean: subtract You can just as easily make any shape you want for the inner hole as in this example You could also create a compound so that you can edit the shape should you want to.
