Ianduplessis
Hi. I have been a user for long while of Affinity designer, but did not spend time figuring this out, so I am using CorelDraw still for some work. Please help me - How can I easily Het a border of an images to make an outline for example Laser cutting line and maybe give inside border of about 1mm. In Coreldraw they call it Contour
Petar Petrenko
There is no Contour tool in Designer, yet. It is on their roadmap AFAIK. firstdefence
You can use the expand stroke to get a similar effect. firstdefence
The Expand stroke option is Layer > Expand Stroke from the top menu bar. The appearance Panel can be shown by going to View > Studio > Appearance (should be second option down) From your latest screenshots you have the graphic as an embedded document, you can draw around the graphic with the pen tool give that curve an inside stroke of approx 1mm and then use the Expand stroke option. So the process to get two lines using the expand stroke option is as follows. Draw around the shape with the pen tool Give the curve a stroke of 1mm and align to the Inside. (No fill) Now go to Layer > Expand Stroke Now do a Boolean Divide and in the colour panel flip the fill and stroke to get two lines I know this is a bit long-winded but it's all we have until we get something like contours/Offset paths/curves. Pšenda
The advantage of the contour through the Appearance panel is that you can adjust its width. You can split the expanded stroke by using boolean: Divide then you have independent control over the inner and outer strokes thicknesses. Yes, but the width of the contour (distance between lines) is given by the strength of the original line before it is converted (Expand stroke). Then it is not easy to edit. firstdefence 1 Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.5.2636 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, Build 22631.4317. firstdefence
I made a follow-up video because after Sever Van Snugg commented on my reply video I realised I'd cocked up, Id wrongly assumed this was a raster image when in fact it was an embedded vector, so this video deals with that. I also offer an alternative idea in the form of bleeds.
