  1. Hello there, Just want to begin with this - coming from PS, I loathe Adobe's business model and I'm happy to support Serif's business model and product. Having said that - dear lord the Selection tools of AP are just awful. I feel like I'm using MS Paint in 1997 sometimes! Here's the crux of the problem - basic selection of SIMPLE shapes should be a 1-click process. I should be able to open ANY simple low-res logo (400-500px), click Magic Wand, click on the SOLID background and be able to isolate the logo. This should take 30 seconds from the moment I open the file, to the moment I export a PNG with a transparent BG. The notion that this task should require messing with Refine Edge and spending 3-4 minutes to paint over the Matte, the FB and the BG just to get a decent result is like living in the 1990s again! Examples provided: Blue is PS and Green is AP. Both are just selected with Magic Wand with Tolerance set to 20 in both apps. The PS results aren't perfect - I can get them close to perfect by massaging the Tolerance to the right number, but the PS results are acceptable. Meanwhile AP results are a just bad - look at the tail, the feet, the ball, and all the edges. And this is with a solid BG and an almost round logo. Having to deal with more complex/organic shapes and a low-res original file is an incredible pain in the your know where in AP. And to add to the list of issues - being able to Select a specific colour sample creates more issues than it resolves. Look, I don't need AP to have the most obscure functions of PS - I need it to execute the basics with CONSISTENT success. I can cut out the logos from the BG of 15-20 files like this in PS in under 10 mins, while the same task would require 35-40 minutes in AP simply because the selection tools are bad at their job. This is no way to work.
  2. Hi, Is there any information on developing plugins to create effects and export other file formats from Affinity Photo?
  3. We need the option or the tool for create unlimited artboards in Affinity Photo like in Affinity Designer is possible to a better and faster workflow
  4. hi everybody! have a serius problem with Affinity Photo. to develop raw files (cr2) I open "Sviluppo Persona", after adjusting settings (really very few adjustment), so I click Sviluppo to switch to Persona Foto to export my work in Jpg...but the transition from sviluppo persona to persona foto (for every photo) is very slow! what's the problem? Really is too slow. I can't work in this way. VERY BAD!!! Ps: Work on Mac
  5. Hi guys, i've a serious issue: when i sharp a picture in RAW mode and then i develop, this lose my sharpening and become soft again. What's wrong???
  6. Hello everyone ! not sure this is the right place to post this but i found it to be the only place global suggestion goes and i take the opportunity to share my recent idea here. Well, i think it is time for Serif to develop a lace similar to Behance on its infrastructure. Designers, Photographs, illustrators and those working in the publishing industry using the Affinity range of products will be interested into this. it will also make it easier for those who have no knowledge or simply have no time of building their portfolio website/page to find a place where they feel at home. i know many will say : but why not just go on Behance or one of those shiny website out there and do the stuff ? My answer is : i just feel how much home alone you will feel when you see all peoples around you processing with the same software and sharing content that makes them be a family and you can't just use their content properly nor even share yours and they find it okay ! Better for now is Serif must develop such a platform, even making different level such as : Free (very simple) , Silver then Gold ! it will be place where people can just come browse and discover what is possible to be made with Affinity thus making the Forum a place for questions and answer. Yes we share content here, Yes it is helpful but all those good artist I've met here can't hide anymore behind a forum that no one can easily enjoy, it is time for Affinitizers to be openly revealed to the world. Serif is not playing a back court game nor a Toy story tales but a real stuffs that deserve visibility everywhere. Hope this will be of interest and not just forgotten. Blessings !
  7. ***Affinity feature requests*** * Having a Hex color Input box on "HSL color wheel" dialog box. * Global Gradient Swatches. Are they this hard to implement in affinity software...it's been 3 years almost and the top design app for mac still doesn't support global gradient swatches, why is that? * Dynamic Styles. Yes, a workaround for this is using a symbol but having a dynamic style instead of using a Symbol can be used in many areas, means, i can implement a dynamic style with shadows and glow to a circle, a rectangle, a polygon...while having ability to manipulate and watch effects like shadows taking change on multiple objects in real time. You get the idea, right? Specially for Ui/Ux designers. * Symbol lock (Sometimes we end up making changes to symbols only to zoom out and realizing those changes impact symbols on the entire page. Hence a special symbol locking mechanism would be very welcomed where we can lock symbols so that they can be moved and resized but cannot be modified or implement changes to their appearances) * PDF, Word documents (and i suspect some other document types) could not be set as linked like various image formats. They remain embedded and could not be linked which clutter the affinity document thus increasing file size. * It's impossible to separate/group swatches within a swatch category, please do something about it * Shape builder tool (We all know it how much us designers are craving for this handy dandy boolean operation tool. come on team serif * We can create separate grids for separate artboards, but we cannot set different grid line color for each cardboard. Suppose if i change grid line color or opacity to "green" on one artboard, all other artboards also have same grid line color and opacity. This gets troublesome when we have multiple artboards with different grids and you have to jump in between. * Shape Blend tool (least priority but essential tool) * Mirroring tool (I get the idea to use symbols as workaround for mirroring but wont a separate tool make tasks a lot easier for logo/graphic designer?) * Functionality to add more Api within Affinity software to grab assets from websites, just like unsplash is the only one currently supported. (https://developer.flaticon.com/landing) * When exporting an artboard, the default filename should be the name of the artboard. For bonus points, a way to export multiple artboards (from the same document, with the same settings) at once would also be very helpful. * Export Persona (or something that make exporting easy) for Publisher as well. Would love to hear your thoughts on this thread. Also, if you found my post/thread/content contributing and containing genuine new feature requests do mention and share your views. it'll make my day 😃
  8. I went through the forum. Did not find it. I want to know the latest 1.9.x (not 1.8.x) If you know where it is. Thank you
  9. Hi, Suddenly my Affinity Photo app on my iPad Pro 11” has started to crash a lot when I try to develop RAW files from my Sony a6600. I have tried rebooting the iPad, I have tried to delete the app and reinstall it, I have lots of memory left (170+ GB) and no other app than maybe the photo gallery open at the same time, but it makes no difference if it’s open or not. If I’m lucky I can edit one photo and manage to save that, but then after that it becomes dreadful to save changes, because it takes several attempts before it will save another photo. Please see attached video of how it goes. Are there other people with same issues? And please, Serif devolpers, can you please fix it?? I had just become very fond of this photo editing tool, but at this point, I don’t want to use it anymore. Best regards, Betina FullSizeRender.mov
  10. Hi, In my work I use a color checker ( grey18%) and I need to set the white balance through the color picker ( by selecting the color checker in the first image of the shooting). thanks!
  11. I tried out the Affinity working with raw images, in my case .orf files. I liked the control over sharpness exposure etc. The problem was when I developed the image to continue work in the regular Affinity workspace, none of the adjustments I made were saved and I had to try to recreate my work. It is annoying as I would like to move to one program work flow, but there must be something I'm doing wrong. Mac desktop, Mojave.
  12. Happy new year guys! I am in the middle of creating my first font (handwritten) and use Affinity Designer for designing the digits. However, the process is very tenacious right now. Since I'm new to font development, this is my current approach and setup. I created a document with a growing number of artboards, one artboard for each possible digit, ligature, symbol, and so on. I created each digit using a stroke with slightly varying line widths at the beginning and end. The program into which the digits are imported works with PDF, SVG, EPS among other (to me unknown) file formats – that's okay, because I can output each digit with the export persona named accordingly. SVG is the recommended file format. But I do run into some problems: The exported digit-files MUST NOT be exported as a path with a stroke The exported digit-files MUST consist of a single shape. The exported digit-files (even if points 1. and 2. were taken into account) as SVG are created with a white box in the size of the artboard around them, which lead to another step of selecting and deleting something manually that actually wasn't created in the first place while designing the digit. (The document is set up with the check for Transparent background under the Colour dialogue) I would have guessed now I can select all contents of the different artboards via shift+click in the layers palette and convert them with a single click on "Expand Stroke" - but this is not possible, because the selection is automatically limited to the artboards and not to the children. SelectChildrenOverMultipleArtboards.mov Furthermore, I would have liked to use an action/macro to merge the multiple curves of single letters like A, B, E or F into a single curve - but unfortunately the macro palette only exists in Affinity Photo, if I see it correctly. Does anyone have an idea how to convert the files without all the unnecessary additional effort/tasks? Cheers and have a nice day MrDoodlezz
  13. Hello, Just wondering what is happening with AP development. It seems to have really slowed down? Is there a major version update in the works? Regards, Frank
  14. I am just wondering if Development of Affinity Design is still Active or has it plateued in favour of other projects? There are a couple design houses asking me, and I am apt to say stick with Adobe because they are still in active development. Don't get me wrong, I love the potential of Affinity Design/Photo but as it stands, I could not really call it professional. There seems to be a breadth of features that are promised to come to Design/Photo, but I am just wondering if this is more of a wait 2 years and see. Cheers! Mars
  15. This Affinity newbie needs guidance on how to create two layers: first layer will be outline for 12 columns (960 grid) and second layer will be my wireframe. I can't find a tutorial on the topic.
