  1. North Staffordshire Rly 0-4-4T No. 11, built 1907 at Stoke. Inspired by learning that 0-6-2T No.2 has been acquired by Foxfield Railway, just up the road; looking up details, I found this photo of a different loco and decided to have a go. (This engine no longer exists.) For anyone not au fait with UK steam railway classification, 0-4-4 refers to the wheel configuration: no leading wheels, four driving wheel, four trailing wheels; T stands for tank, the rectangular shape alongside the boiler holding water.

  3. Stand of Trees II New version of 'A Stand of Trees' (version I) Bit large this one! Original Size 2000 x 1000 mm 300dpi All vector Affinity 2.04 Toolkits Planetary Toolkit (Untamed) W.I.P Trees (Untamed) Meadow (A Stand of Trees)W.I.P
  4. I've been photographing wheels on traction engines, vintage trucks, and railway engines for more years than I can remember. I find it's very useful practice, not to mention good fun, to recreate them in Affinity Designer. I'm sure I posted City of Truro recently, but I can't find it here (I know I posted it on some of the Affinity FaceBook pages). Anyway, this is mainly made in vectors with a limited palette of flat colours and limited use of gradients.. The rivets are symbols, which is a handy way of making lots of identical things that might require later editing, and the lettering is text-on-a-path, with a lot of fiddling with tracking and baselines, and pure luck in finding close matches for fonts. These two wheels are from a showman's engine -- a steam traction engine highly decorated and adapted to provide electric power for a fairground ride. I think this particular one is The Iron Maiden, but I can't lay my hands on the original photos to be sure. (She was originally named Kitchener, but was renamed when she starred in the movie of the same name.) In the first one, the right-hand front wheel, I used gradients for shading and highlights, but in the second, the right-hand driving wheel, I used flat black or white shapes at 50% opacity clipped to the relevant areas. The egg-shaped structure behind the wheel is the cover for the drive train and differential gears. I used multiple outlines for the coloured lining. The rivets -- symbols again (although they needn't have been in this instance) -- are flat colour, and the highlights are separate symbols. each set of four is a Group, with the centre moved to the wheel's centre; this allowed me to use Power Duplicate to space them around the rim at precise intervals. (I did the same with the spokes.)
  5. New artwork: Fashion Forward Fanny As part of #lgbthistory month, I’ve created a new artwork inspired by the legendary Leigh Bowery. For those that don’t know, Leigh was an Australian performance artist and fashion/costume designer, whose dazzling, outrageous, and often disturbing looks were a permanent fixture on the club scene of early 1980’s London and New York. His work has inspired a vast range of artists and designers ever since, including (but certainly not limited to) Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, and Boy George. He was also a muse for Lucien Freud, who created a famous series of full-length paintings of him, and in 2002 his life was celebrated in the West End and Broadway musical Taboo, in which he was played by his friend Boy George, who was also the creative force behind the show. Sadly, Leigh Bowery passed away in 1994, but his legacy is felt as strongly as ever, and is regularly referenced today in both fashion and drag culture at large. I’ve included a few photos of Leigh’s most iconic looks which directly inspired this piece (and you’ll also see I couldn’t resist including a picture of Leigh himself within the piece, watching Fanny do her chores…) Oh, and this is also the second in my “Domestic Goddess” series (drag queens doing the housework in ludicrously inappropriate apparel). Hope you like it (and please do check out more about Leigh Bowery!)

  7. Hey guys! I'd like to share this design result done during my tutorial This topic is: ✅ Tree House In the community we are doing the Vector drawing, this is the best opportunity to learn and practice! You can send your design for feedback, in my instagram @jhon.vectorize See you soon!
  8. New artwork - “Put the Knife Down Sandra.” Part-inspired by Mia Goth in the closing shot of the horror film “ Pearl”, and part-inspired by the slightly crazed smiles of Nigella Lawson (I love Nigella, but, you know…) comes the lovely Sandra, with her slightly demented 80’s appearance. Hope you like her! (Made on Affinity Designer iPad v2)
  9. I’ve been working on a series of pieces featuring ludicrously over-dressed drag queens doing the housework (my “Domestic Goddesses” series). Here’s the first: Debbie Does Dishes. Hope you like her! (Created on Affinity Designer iPad versions 1 & 2)
  10. Here are a few vector images I did with Designer. The penguin I did based on a ceramic penguin light we have. The yellowish bird was something my mom asked me to do that replicated a ceramic bird she has. My tea mug. A hummingbird I saw a picture of for reference. A medicine bottle with spray hose in it.
  11. Graphic design is not my area of expertise. But Affinity Designer v2 is so good that I can't stop drawing something. 😊 Here is the avatar I drew for my little boy:
  12. I took a photo of this particular homestead in Cades Cove at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, USA. My photo looked very dark and dull as it was quite foggy and misty. I created this scene as a vector drawing, then added brush work in Pixel layers. I took a couple of liberties to make it brighter and less foggy. My wife wanted smoke from chimney of building on far right and so I added some. These homesteads here are not active and would not have any smoke.
  13. Wife and I went to a 50’s style diner (Bel Air) and they had a wall jukebox (brought back old memories of playing music on jukeboxes) at our booth. I took a photo of it and their logo signs. I thought I would try creating vector images of their logo and the wall jukebox. I put all the song text inside the jukebox. The letter and number keys really were not perfectly the same. The cards inside the jukebox with the song titles were in rough shape (I didn’t try to duplicate that). I then created a counter with stools and root beer floats and a neon style Diner sign to add something extra. Hope somebody likes it.
  14. Hello Affinity fam! I would like to start using these forums more often and share with you the pieces I'm creating. Here is my latest completed piece. I leave you the information of the piece below. Greetings and thank you so much! https://i.imgur.com/d52WZnm.jpg
  15. Illustrated maps for village promotion and tourist places. Created in Affinity Designer using vector technique combined with bitmap using Concept Master Vol.1: Nature Brush Pack brushes and those created by myself. So far, for several maps, I have drawn about 200 objects with varying degrees of accuracy.
  16. I have years of experience in graphic design in the areas of marketing and advertising. Doing full illustrations like this isn't something I've done since art school, 20+ years ago. It is very satisfying.
  17. New artwork – a last minute entry for @thetuesdaycollective’s themed challenge of “Pink & Red” over on Instagram. I’ve been getting bogged down in obsessively detailed artwork recently, and so I set myself a challenge of creating a series of pieces in the style of my favourite and most inspirational artists. The idea is to learn how to drastically simplify my work, and learn a wealth of tips and tricks along the way. This piece is in the style of the amazing Mads Berg (if you don’t know his work, you should DEFINITELY check it out), and it’s been really enjoyable to create, and a brilliant learning experience. For example, that lei – at one time I would have felt compelled to create a huge, bushy garland of flowers, each one different, and every single petal individually crafted in vector. It would have taken weeks, I would have been raging throughout, and feeling like I was involved in some sort of technical exercise, rather than feeling the joy of creativity. Fine detail will always have a place in my work, but Mads has taught me that less is definitely more! Anyway, hope you like it!
  18. Currently working on this beast of a piece. Prelim sketch for reference (all characters yet to be added), and video showing detail. IMG_4367.MOV
