  1. I remove halos using this procedure: 1: Open image in AP 2: Add new layer (above) 3: Set blend mode to Darken 4: Select Clone Stamp 5: Set layers option to Current and Below 6: Option click to set clone source immediately above the halo 7: Brush in the clone over the halo Since updating to 1.9.3 the layers option dropdown has disappeared! Not sure if it is because of a bug, a change in how to do it, or an inadvertant error on my part, but I'm absolutely sure I need the feature back! It usually is present in the area marked by the red oval in the attached.
  2. MEB responded on 21st July 2020 that this is being looked into ... any solution? I don't normally print from AP but this article made me rethink. However, none of my paper icc profles show in the soft proofing routine. They are indeed all present where they should be in ColorSync and work perfectly well when soft proofing from CaptureOne Pro.
  3. How can I add a black keyline (about 5px) to a photo in AP? Thanks
  4. Patrick, Many thanks for this response. I suspect that the pre-launch beta phase involvement may be the problem as, if my memory serves me correctly (which it may not - it was more than 5 years ago) the beta test group got a big "thank you" from Affinity in the form of a free upgrade from the GM to the official release, and that is why there is no record of a purchase in my AP account. I am certain that the MAS search is correct in that one thing I do recall is advising friends to buy direct from Affinity because of the free trial period. That leaves the question of why the history of upgrades that has come to a halt? Perhaps the auto-upgrade is only active for consecutive versions? One complicating issue is that I had a severe disc corruption about 18 months ago and have not been able to rebuild a complete version history. I'll keep exploring but if all else fails will just buy the current release when the trial period ends.
  5. Thanks Will - yes your are correct. I was able to check purchases back to 2011 and AP is not amongt them which confirms my belief that it was a direct purchase from Affinity. Trouble is it doesn't show when I log to my account there.
  6. Walt, trouble is my Apple ID is the same but not the password and I don't have a record of it that far back.
  7. (Sorry - the "I did" is in reply to walt). Bruce - the nuclear option looks more attractive by the day. I've got 13 days left on my free trial so may try some conventional warfare first.
  8. Tried all that. Updates/Reload Page is inactive and 1.7 has no update activity either automatically on opening or through a menu link.
  9. I was an early adopter of AP and an active participant in the User Forum (ID billtils) but for reasons that were not directly related to the program have not used it since 1.7 Things have changed (including my computers) and all attempts to update to 1.8 have failed - the MAS doesn't recognise me and there is no autoupdate option when I open 1,7. I have downloaded 1.8 but it requires a key and I can't find it and all attempts to resolve this from the user forum have failed. I have been able to login to the user forum (as billtils) and to my Affinity account (billtils@mac.com) but AP itself does not show up in the downloads history. Can you please tell me what to do! Thanks
  10. Or even if it did work, Earlio. I have DxO PhotoLab and it's the biggest waste of money I have ever spent on editing software. There's nothing in it that I use and can't do with AP and the original free NIK collection.
  11. I'm not complaining about or criticising what Serif have done in the last 3 or 4 years, with AP or with the other lines, but I would have been happier if they had just said when this was first discussed that a DAM was of interest but not a priority. The moment has passed.
  12. That could be anything from 13 to 25 months from now. It's almost certainly already too late for me and in that time frame "almost" can be deleted. Could attract others though.
  13. It's been "wait until next year" since day 1. I can understand that Serif devoted resources to other developments such as the iThingy version for sound commercial reasons, but would have preferred that they just drop the DAM and be done - and let us know that's where things are.
  14. I haven't posted much here for a while as the current MAS version meets my editing needs quite nicely - thanks to all for your great work. However, it seems like a lifetime ago that we were assured that a DAM was coming. Is this still the case or has it been dropped?
  15. Mike Some of my more successful focus merge results have come from 5 or fewer images. Did you try this with a range that goes from one just in focus at the front of the object of interest to one just in focus at the rear of the target, with one in the middle and one between the middle and the two extremes?. It may be that AP's algorithm needs something to define the start and end? Bill
  16. Verlie Why not open directly in AP to develop the RAW file then export to the Pictures folder? It's an Apple issue - Nikon (or any other camera maker) can't edit the Photos software. In answer to your question on file management, I use Capture One Pro to develop, edit, tag, and file my images. I changed form Aperture a long time ago and it was easy and reliable provide that I did not try to import the whole library at once, but broke it into smaller tasks. According to their literature you should be able to do the same with Adobe Lightroom. That option did not work too well for me but there are free trial versions of Capture One and Lightroom, so nothing to lose by trying. Just remember to back up first!
  17. Papapeo, I no longer use Aperture but as far as I can recall what MEB suggests will work for you. You can also access the folder that you create by going View > Media Browser (or Shift+CMD+M)
  18. I use Capture One Pro for RAW development, editing and library management. Importing my Aperture library was easy and worked well (at least in regard to my needs - I have a slight recollection of reading that some Aperture features did not transfer). The thing that made the library transfer work was not to import the whole library in one go, but to do it album by album. I downloaded and checked out the free trial version of LR (twice), didn't much like how it worked in general and had major fails with attempts at library importing. I only use Apple's cloud for iPhone and iPad backups. I did use Photos briefly (setting it up for my daughter) - it looks OK but not even close to Capture One, but then it's free ...
  19. I think that post #8 above answers your question. It appears that the current MacOS still supports Aperture, but how long that will last is anyone's guess ... (I somewhat reluctantly dumped Aperture nearly 2 years ago but have no regrets).
  20. I'm sure that is a large part of it. It also seems that they are being driven by the "app model" and have concluded that there are lots of very good Mac-compatible photo editing and library programs out there so there is not a lot of value in devoting resources to maintaining Aperture. Affinity's work on making AP work with Photos is an example ... Apple need a good native photo editor for their iThings and companies like Serif/Affinity are making money for themselves and Apple by developing upscale editors for it and selling them on the App store.
  21. Yes, you can call it as an external editor. Like quite a few here I am a refugee from Apple's decision to cease supporting Aperture, and haven't used it in over a year now, but back in the day the round trip to/from AP worked very smoothly. I don't see why that should change; I was more concerned about Apple eventually coming up with a version of OS-X that would not support Aperture and Sierra has done nothing to change my mind on that.
  22. Gary, what is it that you want to do but can't? If it's printer set-up, take a look at the printfab driver available from Zedonet.
  23. Peter, what happens if you do the round trip with an image from the 6D?
