  1. Hi,

My steps : usually checking files send by clients, grumbling when they send facebook-portrait… trying to insist to get better pic… If Epic fail:

    • Right-click > open in Photo
    • Convert colour profile
    • Ctrl+i > select higher resolution + resample checked
    • If possible, try some filters to add sharpness and correct colours
    • Export with "2" or "v2" suffixe.
    • Update in ID while looking at final PPP.
    • Usually, it's ok, or it's worste and I need to enlarge more… if I miscalculated

It's the sort of process you do sometimes ten in a row with some clients… you don't think about it.

It happened few times when the exported image kept the same resolution. At first when it was a bug while checking "keep metadata" lon ago, and at least twice while working at home (where I keep a browser tab on the forum), at work, it happened but it was not time to report and I usually do it with FastStoneViewer in a click.

  2. First, when trying to display a mask with a  selection in the Photo persona, the selection is displayed on the wrong page (or out of the page, since this one is the 1st page there's not other one left or right).

Second, as you can notice, each time we use a mask of a adjustement layer, it only take in account the visible part of the Picture frame. That's a problem since the bleed should be taken in account, or when exported for pring, we'll have different colours for the plain page and the bleed!

It suppose we won't move the picture in this frame… But if the client want the picture to be move, we'll have to reselect, etc. and redo all the mask or adjustement to fit the new area. Perhaps it would be better if we could work on the whole picture when in the Photo persona.

APub persona 's got difficulties too displaying a mask:

  3. That's not about setting but common files like profiles and, export settings (presets) for PDF, that are some sort of profiles depending of printer's specifications. There should be a minimum compatibility between those, for not needing to enter again values and save again the presets.

Not my best day, having to search workaround for bugs in APub, reinstalling profiles and recreating presets in the regular apps…

the opacity and tint are part of the definition of the swatch color

It depends. Usually opacity is part of the object (frame, text, background, border, etc.), and you can attribute a swatch with a fill option from 0 to 100% of this colour (pure 100% or less % on white backgroung) that is different from opacity (pure colour 100% to transparency).

For example in ID, you've got the Effect panels to manage opacity and modes for those different objects. The colour and its fill setting is always selected in the swatch panel.

In Affinity apps, if the Tint is part of the selected swatch or the selected colour, it should be in the same panel, with the opacity slider, not on a different view. The way it is, it looks like an object parameter instead of a colour/swatch parameter. (Please, no carrousel for opacity/noise/tint! We need the option to see them all at once.)

As it is, trying to use colour for the text frame object background, as I like (an all in one object with all proprieties set once), is difficult. It's easier to have separate items (text frame for text + object for background), so you can easily dupplicate the background to keep as reference for values when needing to test/use another swatch.
This is a problem since you can't have a proper object style retaining those proprieties, you need more objects and more styles (even if for now the object styles are really lacking usabilities: you can save them but not modify them when needed).

Swatches need a lot of work in Affinity.

    Swatches, colours and gradients.

  5. It already happened few monthes ago (december).

I needed to resize (enlarge) an image. I did it a small amount each time, and used a sharpen live filter.
When using the export persona, it didn't exported at the final size, but I suppose one of the first enlarged size.

I closed and restarted AP, and again, it's not able to export at the final size in the Export persona, only if I use the general Export command.

I always keep the metadata with the files, since I need to automatically insert copyrights from them, but it don't seems to make a difference.

Enlarge size in the Photo persona:

Clients sending Facebook icons instead of real portraits is  enough of a pain without adding such bugs!

  6. The same as we do with ID or other type of files for different reasons. The important trick is to keep a visual (PDF or image, depending of the file) to check each the final result once open in an earlier version of an app.

And yes, that's better than loosing hours of work. It goes with the "save often, use backup, etc." litany. We're used to this, but it happens that I finish working on a file and realize that it's the 1st save I do! I learn a good lesson from this too: you do it faster—but not happier—the second time!

  7. Sorry, but in QXD and in ID, the fill (and not tint) and the opacity (of object/text/background) stay when you select another swatch. It's really usefull and that's something you don't notice until it's not in the app you're using.

Unless you save a Tint in the swatch panel — and this way, it's linked to a specific swatch —, you should be able to select another swatch and have the same tint and opacity values (or use a modifier key to reset those values to default 100%).
