  1. everyone is looking at each other and taking what they think is nice. And I would highly doubt that MS and mac decided to make things like virtual desktop or clipboard history or whatever part of their OSes just because something like XEROX or whataver it was called had it 30+ years ago. they are likely looking at currently available systems and what features users like there.
  2. It has certainly been mainstream enough to not die.all of the other systems died and I doubt windows or mac would now look at extinct OSes to copy from rather than a system that sure is in the minority but well and alive
  3. steam has been brought up many times. is it so bad to not accept it as an answer?
  4. well linux introduced those features to the mainstream when it comes to OSes, and yes while the precise question was what started in linux after that he said more precisely that they came on linux "before PC and mac". where with PC obviously windows is meant. because that's what ppl have been brainwashed into assuming being the same.
  5. maybe linux didnt "invent" virtual desktops, clipboard tracking and several other things but among the big 3 (Windows Mac and Linux) linux was sure the one that has had it the longest, and likely improved upon it enough that it was brought to Windows and mac. like sure xerox atari and whatever may have been earlier but none of them are really around nowadays.
  6. I at the very least voted and commented on the reddit threads. I am not a fan of registering everywhere with my real name so I have not registered for wine, but I hope at least the reddit stuff helps.
  7. Likely helps that English isn't my native language (and insults are rarely taught at school). The only way i have heard gimp before was gimping an image as in "badly editing" it. But that it's an insult to disabled ppl actually hurts. Regarding the off topic issue, yes talking about gimp in the context of affinity photo and Linux is imo okay but let's not take it too far.
  8. Wtf? How that? I am classified as disabled and have no idea how gimp could be bad.
  9. okay, checked that link saying that the sets here in the forum are not the full library versions... kinda confusing
  10. well I think he means in regards to the server's OS.
  11. thanks. i was working on this with someone else, and apparently he got the idea from a tutorial that the transparency gradient which is used on other places which needs to be uniform across them can be set as some kind of template that way. I just made a mask rect, that way it can be easily copied over.
  12. Hello, so I have a project and for some weird reason all new shapes seem to have an inherent gradient-thing that seems like a mask which I cannot remove and any fills I apply will be only applied upon that. it's really weird and frustrating tbh, as I have no Idea what's going on.
  13. https://www.theverge.com/2020/6/24/21302213/apple-silicon-mac-arm-windows-support-boot-camp both sides basically give a big middle finger. Apple doesnt want alternative boot options apparently and Windows Licenses ARM only to OEMs.
  14. okay. well I would also love affinity on Linux, especially with W10 being what it is and 8.1 only running till the start of 2023
  15. if you have coins and bills as your affinity fund wouldnt that be kinda useless as you cant just run into a Saturn or whatever and buy a box, although I really wouldnt have anything against it (although the obvious problem would be the extra cost lol)
  16. @Estrobeda well I can see why they wont officially do a wine version because then they would quite literally come to w(h)ine when something doesnt work which might not be the fault of serif/affinity.
  17. nice to know as I would also totally dig it, I switched my Laptpo to Linux (Kubuntu) last august and it works pretty decently (win10 is ugly and the driver situation of 8.1 which I use as main on my other machines is, well, not pretty), and there are many things which work so much better after some setup which dont work as nice or not at all in windows (like for example having a german layout without the "dead" keys, or NOT forcing a US-Keyboard onto me while writing japanese or the pretty neat circular scrolling feature which doesnt work on all touchpads in windows etc etc) honestly Linux in my opinion has only 2 things that are actually hard: 1) the setup (drivers and stuff) 2) programs (obvious) and yeah I would totally dig affinity on Linux one way or another. also I think the idea to have your purchase count as Linux instead of win/mac outlined in that one post pretty awesome:
  18. I generally would love if both icons would be accessible somehow so ppl can choose between the old and new style, but probably other things are more important.
  19. (originally from https://twitter.com/My1xT/status/1093096365532549120 ) how about making it so the beta has a version numbering available where one can see what version is active. both on the publisher download page https://store.serif.com/de/update/windows/publisher-beta/1/ and in the customer panel you see only "1.7.0" ever since the start of the beta, which isnt really great and kinda confusing, might it not be better to show a version number which makes sense like for example 1.7.0-beta5 or showing the date of the last beta or whatever so one doesnt have to guess which is the recent version?
  20. I personally have to say I like the previous logos a LOT more, especially since the triangle shape made it easy to see the affinity software in between all the circles and rectangles most other icons have, and I personally dislike flat design.
  21. sorry for necroing this (but there's no reason to create a new topic for something regarding it), but are there any plans for adding this feature someday? that would REALLY help in enough situations.
  22. but we would also need help for inkscape or a similar vector tool.
