  1. Firstly, AppStores are not 'evil' and I haven't seen any person being 'hurt' by an electronic store, and secondly there IS another option. Please read my post.
  2. When you buy the software from the AppStore, that's the only way to update. When you buy from Serifs homepage directly, you can download installer files from your account.
  3. It is a Dollar sign, but when you look in the basket is says "GST" which is not on the list of currencies I found online (the official abbreviation for Australian Dollar is AUD).
  4. I just stumbled upon this website, claiming to 'represent Serif. They sell tutorials and training, which I get, but also licenses for all three applications for a currency that is abbreviated with "GST" — is this legit? https://affinitysoftware.com.au/
  5. Well ... I'm a bit confused here. As I read your post you seem to confirm what I said in an explainatory manor, so I'm herewith carefully agreeing with you. I think?
  6. Testing that and sorting out issues is part of the beta process — If you have files that not work, upload them here so the developers can take a look at them and fix the problem(s). If the files are confidential ask for an upload link.
  7. What about showing the thumbnail preview image from the PDF instead? I'd rather have a lower resolution, than an incorrect display (that would mentally transport me back to QuarkXpress in 1996/7 where you couldn't properly display PDF and EPS files inside the layout, fun times, but I prefer to GWIS - Get What I See!). Maybe do a quick poll here in the forum to find out what the majority of users prefer?
  8. PDF Passthrough: Love the implementation, especially that ,passthrough' is the standard setting but that you can change it on a case-by-case basis. I have been playing with it, just picking random PDFs from my hard drive and my emails and pulling them into an empty document to see what happens and am having a lot of fun with it. The attached file crashes the beta reliably every time for me, it imports correctly in the release version though. BILd_zeitung_73_2019.pdf
  9. I have quickly tested both file in several programs and every single one (online converted and offline apps and even macOS Preview) gives me an error message on both files -- either a "PostScript Error" or "Unknown Error" and one online converter identified the issue as "File is Encrypted". My guess was, that something was wrong with the files you supplied or with Rhinos export settings -- otherwise at least one of the online converters would have been able to get SOME result, at least a low res preview image or something. Some googling confirmed that exporting PDF, AI and EPS in Rhino has been an issue for some time (forum posts backdating to 2015 and older), apparently it's a big task to transfer the 2D drawing of a 3D model to vector graphics (PDF, AI, EPS). As far as I can tell from their forums and the website, Rhino 6 has something they call "real PDF export" which is done by printing with the "Rhino PDF printer" (you could install the trial of Rhino 6, export a few files and test how they transfer to PDF). For Rhino 4 an 5 I was also able to find this plugin / macro for SVG export: https://www.food4rhino.com/app/save-scalable-vector-graphics
  10. You could create an EPS and a PDF file and ask MEB (see above, he's from Serif) if he gives you an upload link to send your test files to the developers so they can see which parts are not working and if they can fix it for the next update. If it's nothing confidential or you have test files that you don't mind forum members helpfully messing around with, you can also attach them to a post and see if someone can find the issue.
  11. That's odd. It looks as if your mouse click selects the first frame on the page, when you click ... please try to edit your master pages and move the two frames with the page numbers to the bottom of your layers palette (so that the two main text frames are on top and the page number frames below them).
  12. EPS should work. Affinity normally imports EPSes nicely.
  13. Rhino is a 3D modelling software, Affinity Designer isn't ... all you can do is transport using an exchange format like PDF or SVG, but it will not transfer the rotatable model, only the current view of your graphic. Also ... it'd be nice if you asked for help in a nice and friendly manner, instead of ranting rudely.
  14. Can confirm ... very strange. It's the same behaviour by the way when you simply search for "head" without RegEx, same six results, same stop after the first three. And also the same result after reformatting all text to (no style) and moving the text frames around the pages or re-ordering them in the layers panel. Lastly: Same result again, when the text in one of the frames is changed (I noticed that both text frames have the same name in the layers panel, so I edited the first line of one frame to make it re-name itself and make them different). It DOES work correctly though, when all text is copied into one text frame and / or flows into the other. Therefore, my guess is, the issue has something to do with the text frames being separated. Edit: macOS Big Sur, Developer Beta 7 // Affinity Publisher 1.8.4, release version
  15. There was a list of planned features until about maybe two years ago ... Serif took it down and stopped talking about plans, because people started getting angry when things on the list they wanted didn't get done fast enough and started arguing among each other and with Serifs staff when features appeared that where not on the roadmap while things on the roadmap got pushed back and ... it was a very unhealthy situation and ate into everyones energy and time, so it was not worth it. If you want to know what's coming next, I recommend keeping an eye on the developers Twitter (there's sometimes short animated GIFs as teasers) and the beta forums.
  16. Thanks, nice idea and I'll keep it for the future, might come handy.
  17. A crossword puzzle where the cells need to be exactly square. If tables don't work, I'll use text boxes instead.
  18. Is there a way to fix the height of table cells so that they don't expand when / if the text doesn't fit?
  19. Exactly my thought, put in clearer words by you ... "Guide Layer" is a nice term for it.
  20. Hmmm ... certainly useful, but might become a quiet complicated to use feature, especially when juggling several grid layouts in one file. I believe a good way to achieve this would be one layer on each page that is set to "no print" (which would require the software to distinguish between "objects" and "layers", respectively find a different term for one of them)?
