  1. Hello @marble51, since it is a vector object you are using as a mask you have to work differently. Basically applying blur to a vector object is the equivalent to feathering a selection. A selection is a representation of pixels. That is the difference. The advantage of using a vector object is that you can edit its shape at any time. Even with the blur effect on. You can even use compounds of multiple vector objects as a mask. d.
  2. Yes, this is another option, thanks. I assume some of the content will not be as easy to edit as with copy and paste. I never tried it. d.
  3. Thankyou for this use case. If you are working together with this many collaborators (which is a very promising example of the spread of the Affinity suite) you are either working in a commercial context or in a non profit context. A commercial context should sooner or later make it possible to upgrade everyone involved. I do understand that this may not be (easily) possible in a non profit or volunteer context. I see that this can be a problem. In some cases it is possible to exchange content between V1 and V2 files by copy and pasting layers. That way someone who is on V2 could copy layers to V1 and provide this file to collaborators on V1. I admit this is a poor workaround but at least 'something'. d.
  4. Hello @pissedoffuser and welcome to the forum. The main reason is because Serif decided so. One of the reasons fellow forum member @Komatรถs already mentioned. In regard to the relatively reasonabley priced upgrade cost I would hesitate to call this a bait. But to each his own. Can you perhaps provide a use case which explains why someone would stay with version 1 and seriously has to interchange version 2 files? I know about some users who still are at version 1 on purpous. But I never heard from them that they are missing this feature. If compatibility is a serious issue (e.g. in a commercial scenario) an upgrade should not be too hard. d.
  5. Did you experience this with already taken test images? Or are you thinking about this in advance? I did some stitching of water in the past. I was able to retouch the boundaries between the different images (clone brush, stamp tool). But the waving water was not the main object in those images and the waves were not as big like those in an ocean. d.
  6. Well, @walt.farrell beat me by giving you a good answer (thanks for that). The only thing I can add is that this way of creating grids is more of a visual technique. There is no way to control distances precisely during their creation. That is not a bad thing. It is just good to know. d.
  7. That is indeed deeply hidden. At least it's not a bug ๐Ÿ™‚ d.
  8. Hello @Zero1, if you turn off both HSL Shift Adjustments you will notice that one rectangle is solid black and the other one is somewhat transparent. But since they are just clipping masks the fill does not do anything. It would be interesting to know if you created group 1 in a V1 application and which one. I assume that was in APhoto? By playing around with the file I was able to crash AD V2.1.1. There seems to be something odd going on in this file. d.
  9. It seems you already found an app that solves the task for you. Wonderful. On Windows it seems to be possible to password protect a file from its properties window. I just read about this and haven't tried it by myself. d.
  10. Crossposting ๐Ÿ™‚ You answered my suggestion by this. You do not want other people being able to seeing the file's content. A simple way could be to ZIP the file and use a password. d.
  11. On Windows (and I assume on Mac OS, too) you can change the file's properties to 'read only'. That way you can open and view a file but you cannot save changes back to that particular file. The file remains unchanged. d.
  12. Sometimes it happens to me that I need to move several objects the exact same amount of space. Here's my quick and dirty way: use the arrow keys and count. E.g. arrow left moves an object a given amount of pixels to the left. That given amount of pixels (or any other unit) is defined under 'Options > Tools'. Hitting five times arrow left and hitting five times arrow right on the other object gives exactly the same movements in opposite directions. Note: you can use Shift + arrow key to multiply the distance by 10. d.
  13. True. I just meant to point out that there is a rudimentary measuring capability (if I may call it that way). I am confident that this tool will see some development in the future. d.
  14. Hello @wonderwharf and welcome to the forum. As @Callum said this is not on the horizon. But there have been postings in the (far) past about a project like this. Just don't expect it anytime soon ... or after soon. d.
  15. sample points as in APh? This is true. The measure tool does snap to rulers in AD. One could mark certain points of interest with horizontal and vertical rulers and measure between their crossings. But this is cumbersome and certainly not what @MotRettop is looking for ๐Ÿ˜‰ d.
  16. Hello @MotRettop, V2 of the suite introduce a measuring tool that allows you to measure distances between positions on screen. Unfortunately it is a not finished tool (in my opinion) and measured distances vanish once you switch to another tool. But maybe you want to try it out and see if that is of use for you? d.
  17. Hi @R C-R, I'm not quite understanding what the point is of what you are saying. This may be due to the fact that we are communicating in written word which sometimes lacks the quality of spoken word. But I want to understand. Yes, it is possible to click on any item of a warp group to select the group (as with any other group). But it makes no difference if the group consists of one or many items in it. So what do you want to add to my initial answer? To me the great difference at the moment is that it is neccessary to click on the area of the warp group's original content and not somewhere on its visual representation. This may be irritating to some users. This is what I try to illustrate with the image I posted above. Cheers, d.
  18. Correct. I should not select a single object among several others inside a warp group. Thanks for pointing that out. In the example in my mind and according to the OP's description there is only a single text box inside the warp group. In that particular case it is possible to select that text box with the Move Tool and then turn on editing the warp group by switching to the Node Tool. It is even easier to directly use the Node Tool and click on the text object. This immediately switches into warp group editing mode. In both cases it does not work to click on parts of the warped object that are outside of the original vector object. One has to click within the bounding box of the unwarped object (see screenshot). I am not sure if this needs further improvement. d.
  19. Hi @VJS, this was introduced in V2 of the suite and works about the same, even with picture frames. It is very fast to eyeball an array of picture frames across a certain layout area. Since you are with V1 this unfortunately won't work for you right now. d.
  20. Hello @ZhangX, it is not possible to select multiple guides and move them together. You can only move them one at a time. If you want to move all of them precisely you can use guide manager and do some math there. E.g. if you type into a guide's vertical position 30mm+5 the guide will be moved exactly 5mm. You can repeat this with every other guide and move them with precision. But it is not as quick as selecting all of them and moving. In general guides are treated differently from vector objects. This is the current state. There have been requests to treat them more like special vector objects so that every circle or rectangle could be used as a guide. d.
  21. I admit the extra step with the Move Tool is not necessary. I just wanted to make sure the object is selected at all. d.
  22. Hello @Pyanepsion, an interesting question - or better challenge - to do this in AD ๐Ÿ™‚ To make it look really convincing you have to take care of all those light reflections on each puzzle item. I think with some of the samples @v_kyr presented above as a starting point and then doing some warping for perspective will give you good results. But it will be harder to create those 3D effects to each single element. d.
  23. Select the Text Box with the Move Tool by clicking once. The switch to the Node Tool. This brings up the boundaries of the warp group. d.
  24. Hello @elipsett2 and welcome to the forum. I can't answer you the question about the help files in your computer. But I suggest to use online help instead, e.g. here: https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/ At the bottom of the left pane you can select between languages and you could keep open two tabs to access help in different languages. d.
  25. Hello @JBell, welcome to the forum. I am not sure if your question is about croping at all. By looking at the differences between your picture and the sample I see some reasons why you won't be able to achieve the same result, no matter how you treat it in Affinity Photo. the perspective looks a little from above towards the jewellery and this is something you can't change afterwards. You have to take care during the photo shoot. in the background the texture does not fit the sample image. You cannot achieve the same effect of fading away the texture against an even more distant background. while the lighting in your photo is not bad it is not as brilliant as in your sample. With this in mind I think your task is not only on how to crop the image in APh even more on how to create an image that makes this process possible, at all. Once you have a photo that itself looks somehow similar to your sample cropping should be very easy in APh. I do not want to sound harsh. I want to provide constructive feedback. I hope that helps. d.
