MaryLou got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Image disappears when moved off document
Thanks everyone!  Problem solved.  All one has to do is simply press the \ key to toggle between the views.

US keyboards do not have an Alt Gr key.  I've been using Windows keyboards since the days of DOS and have never seen one.

It looks like the Cmd key and the CTRL key are for the same functions for most things.   The Fn (function) key is to access special features on the very top row of keys (F1 through F12). . The basic Function keys are the same on all keyboards but for the special features on those keys, you have to press and hold the Fn key .

For example, the F5 key on all US keyboards will refresh a browser window. But the second feature, accessed by the FN key is different. On one keyboard, FN + F5 = Search. The FN + F5 = keys on my other keyboard is to increase my speaker sound and and on the laptop, it is to increase the brightness of the screen.

I did look at the View menu and tried several of the options right down to the split screen but somehow, did not try the last one. I simply didn't know what I was looking for so it was hard to find.  You can bet, I won't forget this one!

MaryLou got a reaction from Alfred in Export Preview
Please give us a preview of what we're exporting.  The default is Whole Document and if we forget to change that, we end up exporting the entire workspace instead of only the intended object.  DrawPlus had a GREAT preview so we could see exactly what was being saved.

In Affinity Designer, I end up exporting an image, then opening it back up to make sure I only got the image and not the whole page.  The other option would be to make the options you select when exporting "stick".  When saving several objects, I have to reset it back to saving with no background for each individual object.   Better yet, give us both!

MaryLou got a reaction from Alfred in Artboard Document Sizes
Who's to say that I will not buy an iPad in the future? There are sizes on the Page Presets on the Document Setup, so why not be consistent throughout?  I don't agree that "most people" create an A4 page without caring what the physical dimensions are. If people didn't care,  why bother to have more than one size?  It doesn't matter, it's not worth arguing over but consistency makes things nicer for everyone.

MaryLou got a reaction from fapedMum in Group does not turn off
I don't know if this has been reported or not so, will post it here.

When you have a grouped image, and you want to ungroup it,  the Group option on the menus should be grayed out since it is already grouped, but it is not.  It's this way on the Layers right-click menu, the Document right-click menu and on the dropdown menu under Layers on the menu bar.

The first time I noticed it was when I wanted to ungroup an item but the menu showed both Group and Ungroup as options as being active.  That was confusing.  At that point, I wasn't sure I actually had a group so I double-checked.

Even Serif's very own DrawPlus has a Spiral Tool, although it wasn't implemented until the next to last version of the program.

MaryLou got a reaction from BobsDaubs in Export Selection without Background Bug
I agree, this needs to be fixed.  It is frustrating to say the least. When you create your work on a white background, then save it and pick the option to save it without the background showing, only to find that it doesn't work. You get the background, like it or not.  To get around this, one has to go to the Document settings just prior to saving and change it to a transparent screen, then, and only then, can you save with transparent background.

In addition, the options that one chooses on the export window to not "stick".  If I'm saving half a dozen images, I have to re-select the same output options with each and every image.  Very time consuming.  Had hoped it would be fixed by now.  Would save a lot of frustration.

I would like to see a Spiral tool added under the Pen tool.  That was one of the very best features in DrawPlus and would make a wonderful addition to Affinity Designer.  The folks on my forum used it... a lot.. and we all miss it.  Please give us a Spiral tool in AD.  :D

MaryLou got a reaction from Bhikkhu Pesala in Exporting a document
Each and every time I export a document (png, jpg, etc) the Area says "whole document". I normally use image with transparent background.  I have to remember to change that setting every single time.

Shouldn't that at least stay with the same settings that I used the last time?  When opening a new document, all those settings stay the way I set them.  I know DrawPlus "remembered" my saving preferences as well.

Is this going to be fixed to remember what we selected the last time we saved?

Thank you for the response!  We have 14 people using the beta in my forum and everyone has been questioning this.  After looking at some of the MAC tutorials, those where I could see the color tab were not totally white either which made us wonder if this may have been intentional.  It works perfectly now that I have found the defaults.  One down!  Thanks again. Will relay this info back to my forum.  LOVE this program!!
