  1. • Is there a way to detect on object styles' definition by its single settings? I'd like to read an overview what parameters are set in a style, for instance what effects are used, what object format and what text format is applied. – Or is a styles' visual look applied to an object and a check of its settings in various panels the only way to detect? • Is it possible to re-define a saved object style? – Or do I need to create a new style instead?
  2. With an empty text frame selected choose "Apply style to selection" in the panel "Table Formats". It creates a reproducable crash of AfPub. ( Whereas with an image or graphic frame selected no crash gets caused by "Apply style to selection". )
  3. @Walt, thank you. I still need to get used to these freedoms. They become even more complex if you combine an Object Style with "Decorations" of Paragraph Pane to format the frame (text background, frame border), too. Plus with a table format ... Agree.
  4. When I place an image – by dragging or tool / jpg or tiff – it appears to have an "Image DPI" which always is my document resolution. This makes, in an 300 dpi document, screenshots always appear with about 1/4 of their size only. The use of the nice button "100%" does not help here. This is especially weird because Resource Manager does recognize and tell the correct image DPI. So the bug seems to be that the images DPI becomes ignored by the place action. Furthermore there seems to be a UI bug in the image info line at the upper left of the main window: There an image dimension always is given in pixels, regardless of a documents millimeter preference. Here again the Resource Manager is aware about the correct info and shows the image size in millimeter. p.s.: It reminds me to an earlier topic where the issue was vice versa: placed images appeared in 72 DPI, even 300-dpi-images. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/66358-affinity’s-running-gag-not-honouring-resolution/
  5. Cosmetic issue: Since v.293 in light UI some panels appear with a darker gray background than usual, for instance "Pages" and "Styles".
  6. So it is a local rendering issue - or a programming issue? Do you see the same "Panel "" in your help? – Here are some more: Actually indeed, all German UI and help texts don't use the 'correct' German quotation marks – but this hardly might produce misunderstanding or misuse. What I wonder more now: is there a place in AfPub where I can define or select the quotation mark usage in my document? Not only up/down but also straight or curved-typographic. The help menu knows "anführungszeichen" (= quotation marks) but seems not to have a particular help topic for it.
  7. Mark, thank you! Is it correct (and useful?) that one can use this function to create a style for text formatting, too? It appears I can save font, size, line space, kerning etc. in such an object style – but have "no styles" remaining active in the text style menu. If this behavour is in purpose it is confusing at least. There already is an according menu item, called "Add style from selection".
  8. German: The Help menu appears to show some keywords of the help topics (not the menu entries) in English only, though the linked help texts are in German. Some help menu entries occur duplicated but are linked to the same 1 help article. Some German help entries show unwanted code ("&#34" and with other numbers, too), both in help menu and in help articles.
  9. Aha. What does your menu "Help" say about "create style"? (in your Edit menu are Preferences..., which are in Mac under "Affinity Publisher Beta")
  10. When opening an .afpub it always seems to open with palette "Colors" in Swatches panels, regardless of the palette I used to save the file before. The bug seems to be that this Colors swatches always open in RGB look, regardless of the documents color space. So for a CMYK document it seems to be necessary to switch the palette in the Swatches Panel pulldown menu from "Colors" to another palette and back to make the "Colors" swatches occure in the documents color space look.
  11. The menu entry "Create style" appears not to do anything. Since it doesn't have tripple dots ("create style ...") which in mac OS informs about following options window (for instance to define the new style), I would assume this command does anything immediately, at least related to my momentary selection, either frame or text. In case there is an action going on I, sorry, can't see it; I would expect a new occurence in the style panel at least.
  12. in German UI the first entry in the language pulldown menu says "Standard" (English: "Default"). In German + Mac it would be more common to read it as "System" (or "Sprache des Betriebssystems") since it appears to be related to the system language (where no "Standard" exists). Compare the term system colors - which are standard colors related to the operating system only. Apropros System colors: the Swatches menu offers "Apple" and "System" – whereas "System" appears not to be related to "Apple" (as a systems' creator) but possibly to the Affinity applications UI colors. (which additionally appears irritating because there is no place to change the UI colors)
  13. I am able to reproduce the not updating of a new PDF-preset. Though a new preset appears immediately in the "More" preset list. But when "More" becomes closed than the new preset does not appear in the preset list, unless I close an reopen the Export options window.
  14. Can you check/compare with Resource Manager, pls? I experience bad update issues with multi-page pdf. For instance once the shown pdf content is correct on APubs document page but wrong in Resource Manager – or vice versa. Or it's right on page & Resource Manager but wrong in pages panel preview. So I don't know/can't tell, which shown content of the placed pdf is fact until I export/print the document. Correct in Resource Manager, wrong on page: Correct on page, wrong in pages pane:
@Lars, you probably did not enable the auto-update option in the program prefs, right? - Does it work when you enable Auto Update? For me APub then makes live updates as soon as a picture has been changed. I get a notification window on the monitor for each changed file. It is not necessary to re-open the document or program.
  16. Doesn't work here: When I select in Recource Manager more than only 1 missing file then the button "Replace" becomes grayed out (and all 3 other buttons, too).
  17. @fde101, do you know where I can find an option like "replace all" when, for instance, files path changed? I only discovered a pref for auto-update, which, indeed should solve one part of lars' issue:
  18. Yes, me too! It would be very useful not only when image files have changed but also for altered folder names or file paths.
  19. @larsh, um Missverständisse zu vermeiden, kannst du den Titel deines Themas auch nachträglich anpassen (klick auf "Edit" unter deinem 1. Beitrag), zB in "JPG export pixel size".
  20. I get the same unexpected result like lars: A custom jpg export document dimension (px x px) has no effect for the resulting dimension but results in document page dimension with lower, jaggy, quality. A switch of document preference from Millimeters to Pixels has no effect on this bug. A switch of document resolution from 300 dpi to any lower has an effect – but the bug of not respected custom export pixel dimensions still remains.
  21. Oh, no! Thank you, A_B_C, I haven't noticed that button before. - Now it works as expected.
  22. Unfortunately not I have a grayscale JPG, the Resource Manager recognises its icc profile as "Schwarze Druckfarbe ..." (Black print ink) – but the resulting pdf shows content in all 4 channels. The Resource Manager does not tell its color space correctly: instead grayscale it tells the documents color space - for any placed image.
  23. @Dave Harris , in an 16 bit .afpub there is no compression working even when downsampling is necessary and is set in export and in more options. So there is a bug either in GUI or in export code.
  24. On mac usually a "Cancel" button in a window does cancel any change one did in this window. This way one can be shure not to have changed anything. The "Cancel" in Export window appears not to work like this: a change of for instance a preset + Cancel does not cancel the change but the export only. Also a "Cancel"-button in "More"-options would be useful – if it would work properly. On the other hand I still do miss that the Export options remember my recent settings. Instead I have to select again and again from pulldown menu "Current page" when I want to export the current page again and again, for instance to test different "More"-set results.
  25. Walt, I know how it works. I simply don't understand nor see a reason why it was designed like this. A preset can be selected at 2 places, you never can see both at 1 time. If it would be in 1 window only, a topic like this might have not happened Also I miss a "Cancel" button in "More" – and, much worse, I miss the "Cancel"-button in export options to work
