  1. @junklont welcome on the forum. From the screenshot you attached i see that you're using single pages. This is how i would number the pages (see video below↓) I used a bigger text frame only for demonstration to make things more visible. APub_even_pages_numbering.mp4
  2. @Chris B, I just want to point out bump it that this is still an issue in the recently released version 2.4.2. Why hasn't this solution been implemented? Months go by, new updates are released to fix more trivial bugs, and yet this one is still present.😠
  3. That's great to hear Tim👌. This will make the code nice and tidy. The APi should be like 🎻not like a 🔨
  4. Is there any any particular reason why master pages layers arent picked up when you create a query with layer name using a regular expression? Tried the expressions listed below: ^Master A.* ^Master.* to grab specific one or all off them, scope setted up to Document and it's not working. Is it a bug or is it deliberaty designed to ommit/ignore master page type layers?
  5. @junklont Basically, you need to find a way to select all the master page layers throughout the entire document and bring them to the front so the page numbers will become visible. I would try this. Go to the first facing page spread and select the 'Master page' layer in the Layers panel. Now go to Menu bar and choose Select → Select Same → Width → Equal. This should select al the master pages in facing page spreads throughout entire document. Now go to Menu bar and chose Layer → Arrange → Move to Front. This should move the master pages to the front and the page numbers should be visible now in all facing page spreads. If there are still some individual pages that you need to correct, you can do it manually to finish the process. Check out the video↓ (I used rectangles to cover the pages instead of images) Move_master_pages_to_front.mp4 P.S I hope this will save you some time than if you had to correct each page separately.
  6. I know, it was a slip of the tongue, with this rotation thing. I meant something else and wrote something else. You are right @Hangman, 'make same' works with groups but you need consider those regular bounds - bounding box thing. 'Set selection box', 'regular bounds', 'base box' — It's easy to get lost in all these terms. EDIT: If an object or group is rotated, the false impression is created that the 'make same' function for height and width does not work properly because intuitively the rotation andregular bounds are not taken by the brain into account at the first look.
  7. I understand your point of view. But I don't know if you noticed that when you change the selection box, the rotation resets to 0 degrees. This is something I wouldn't want to be done automatically, but only at my explicit request. That's why I disagree with you. As you can see, it's designed this way for a reason. Many issues need to be taken into account. Best regards, have a nice day @Anto
  8. You still don't understand anything. I didn't say anything like that. I wrote that this is not how transforming vector objects works in APub and not only. To swap width/height values you need reorient the selection box. Version 2.4 also introduced a new function called 'Set selection box' that allows you to make the selection box change a permanent change. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/196633-set-selection-box/ P.S It would be better if we ended the discussion here because as I see it, it will lead to nothing.
  9. NO. That's not how it works. If you want to swap width and height values after rotation you need to reorient the selection box. Go and read about [Object control] and [Selection box types] in the documentation↓ https://affinity.help/publisher2/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/ObjectControl/select.html&title=Selecting objects
  10. If a given function does not work as you would like, it is not always an bug. And I think that's the case here. In my opinion the 'make same' function wasn't designed to work with grouped objects. And writing that the width and height values should be assigned new ones after a 90-degree rotation, without comment🤡 Being precise you nedded align two groups of objects not two objects. (group of objects ≠ object) With two objects 'make same' function has no problems.
  11. @anto It doesn't do so because the selection box of the shape didn't changed after you're rotated it. (check the video below) Keep in mid that the default behaviour is that the selection box is oriented to match the shape rotation. It would be bizzare if the height and width would be assigned with new values after 90° rotation without expliclicty telling the app to change the selection box like in the video bellow. Although I agree that 'make same' rotation should work for groups as well I completely disagree with your diagnosis of why it doesn't work. Recently, you often look for bugs where there are none. In my opinion the 'make same' function doesn't work for groups because it wasn't designed to work with grouped elements. If you asked why it wasn't designed to work with grouped objects, the answer is simple - it would require more complicated code. ADe_selection_box.mp4
  12. @Dan C is there any progress in solving this problem? It was first reported in 2021 by a user on the forum and now it is 2024. How long should we wait for this to be fixed? The layers panel, including thumbnails, is quite an important element in raster graphics editing software. This thumbnail issue should have been caught by the internal testing team much earlier and fixed as a matter of priority a long time ago.
  13. Yes, and it's very. This is probably one of the three most desired features that users would like to see in APub
  14. There is no bug here. You just don't understand how the 'Initial Words' feature works. When you turn it on, it will apply specified character style to specified number of initial words but in all paragraphs. The 'End characters' field is used to specify which characters can be used to automatically end the initial word formatting. In simple words it tells the app this↓ So if there is no colon in paragraph it changes 4 words as you set up in the 'Max word count'. If a colon is in a paragraph and appears earlier than 4 words, the characters are changed only up to this colon and no further, even though you indicated 4 words. @anto I hope this cleared things up a bit for you.
  15. You're absolutely right. I did not mention UI/UX usability specialists because it is obvious to me that they should be a link between industry specialists, users and developers. I also hope that Canva will move this type of model, where there is a clear division of work and where everyone is responsible for their area of expertise. Namely, developers code and UI/UX specialists plan what the interface and workflow should look like after consultations with professionals and suggestions from users.
  16. You should use the PNG format as it is celebrated for its support for alpha channel transparency. It is lossless and supports a wide color spectrum, including grayscale and full-color images. This is a go-to format if you want to create an image with different levels of opacity. On the screenshots below you can check the (click them to enlarge): Export settings (file format), APh (AffinityPhoto) — the look of handwritten element in pdf Browser (MSEdge) — the look of the final pdf opened in browser. I hope I have dispelled your doubts as to whether an element made from a hand-scan will retain its transparency in the PDF file.
  17. Welcome in the forum @Max 1955, Yes. Just use the "Blend Options" dialog box like in the video below↓ Blend_options.mp4
  18. @pioneer, Go to a friend who knows computers and who built one himself. Nowadays, almost everyone has such a geek among their friends. He will advise you and build a set specifically for your needs. You won't overpay and you will definitely be satisfied. I have been building computers for my own needs for many years, sometimes I also did it for friends and family. Everyone is happy, and what's best there been always left something in the wallets for future improvements.
  19. After turning on the X-ray mode, it feels like a technical drawing, thanks to which you can see not only what is superficial, but also what is inside. Good job. These details and precision, top notch👌 @Epakcor. I'm a bit jealous because I'm not enought talented to make things like that, even after drinking a few gins. So I have no choice but to drink one 🍸 for this great drawing and for you to post more like this on the forum. Cheeeeers, have a good Sunday.
  20. Unfortunately. Speaking with great restraint, the management of pages and spreads is very weak in APub and needs a major overhaul. Moving pages only with drag-drop, problems with Master Pages after the order of pages is changed especially if you use facing pages, make work very dificult. I hope that after the announcements/promises of implementing multi-page spreads, they will also deal with the problem of page shifting/moving and we will finally get a solid page and spread management system comparable to a professional DTP program. Canva has an office in UK, so no one has to fly anywhere with first aid. You just need to hire local typesetting and DTP specialists who will tell the devs how an decent system for managing pages and spreads should look like. The devs supported by this knowledge will do the rest and every one would come out happy. And if they want to cut costs and not hire professional typesetters and DTP specialists as consultants, they can always follow other professional programs available on the market. You always have to compare yourself with the best when you want to reach the same or better level.
  21. Deleting pages is a deadly simple operation and I don't agree that the current dialog needs any improvement. As for the "Move Pages" dialog box, I think it would be very useful and handy. It would be great if you could: Select one or more adjacent pages and choose a new place to insert them inside the same document. Move pages between opened documents. This is how I would see it. Similar to InDesign because it's very well thought out there. As for additional information about page numbers I disagree with you @MikeTO. Only document page numbers, i.e. those that represent page numbers in the Affinity document should be used. It is enough that the Pages panel provides the so-called "publication page numbers" in parentheses calculated on the basis of the starting page number of the section. There is no need to complicate matters further. In general, the principle should be to introduce simple intuitive solutions, and not such that everyone will wonder what are these additional page numbers. Once again terrible idea @MikeTo. In my opinion, page thumbnails, due to their limited size, offer little detail, making them a poor visual reference and, in principle, should only be generated in places where they are particularly desirable such as the Pages panel or the "Print" dialog box and where they can be a little larger than usual because space and available resizing options allow it. Placing them in places other than these is a waste of CPU resources, developers' time to implement such a solution, does not make the slightest sense and even more so in the dialog boxes you are asking for. So +1 for "Move Page" dialog👍 Big NO for thumbnails in "Move Pages" or "Delete pages" dialogs.👎 Big NO for messing with peaoples head with additional page number info that is other than document page numbers.👎
  22. This means that this whole takeover and the reasons given do not add up on both sides.🤡 No, to win, all they need to do is deliver one of equal quality at a more affordable price than the competition.💪
  23. @SrPx, You're right. But it also happens that due diligence is carried out improperly, which may unnecessarily inflate costs. Calculation errors can also result in unrealistic synergy targets being set, and investors and analysts will certainly miss milestones that have not been achieved. This type of pressure makes building a new organization and simultaneous stabilization of existing structures even more difficult. The decision to merge or take over is usually dictated by specific reasons. Among them, four main groups are most often mentioned. These are the motives: technical and operational Technical and operational motives aim to increase the operational efficiency of a given enterprise, including: increasing the efficiency of business management and reducing operating costs. financial The most common financial motives include increasing the debt capacity, tax benefits or the use of financial surpluses. managerial Taking into account managerial motives, the main ones mentioned are realizing the management's ambitions, increasing prestige or greater freedom of action. market and marketing The most common market and marketing motives include eliminating competition and increasing share in a given market sector. Now, the Kingdom👑 and the horse🐴 go to whoever knows Canva's real motives in taking over Serif. Because I'm not particularly convinced by the argument that they want to compete with Adobe on the professional software market by using Affinity programs. Which, let's be honest, cannot be compared to Ai, Ps, Id in terms of functionality, quality and stability. It will take many years and a lot of cash and a change of mentality will be needed for Affinity to develop enough to compete with Adobe. For comparison, a small table↓ The last but not least important thing that is worth mentioning is that the increase in the return on the acquisition investment is very much influenced by the initial market reaction. And I don't see much enthusiasm here after the announcement of Canva's takeover of Serif and the Affinity program line.
  24. These are my biggest fears. Because I expect and would like development to move in such a direction that Affinity programs become truly professional tools equipped with mature and high-quality functions, which means, for example: top-notch rendering library (no redraw issues, smooth zoom-in-out without flashing render tiles, no delays in rendering / updating thumbnails) professional object styles (dedicated dialog, ability to either clear and replace all object settings or replace only specific ones or save defaults) Split/ span columns professional spread and page management (multi-page spreads, moving and page reorder) foolproof color managment and pdf export workflow comparable to a professional tool (without reinventing the wheel, where everything has been working optimally for many years) true vector brushes and patterns vector symmetry tools symbols libraries variable font support creating cutom glyph sets drag-n-drop to rearrange columns and rows in table tables across multiple page or inside text frames envelope distort (using selected object as a shape for the envelope) and more and more... Otherwise, I can't imagine how Affinity would compete with Adobe, which is what the owners of Canva declare. And for God's sake, stop this type of marketing↓ With all my sympathy and respect for your programs, it has nothing to do with reality. What's more, such arrogant marketing, unsupported by quality, slowly becomes distasteful and discourages rather than encourages people to buy your products. You can advertise your product in a more balanced way without treating your current and potential customers like mindless idiots.
  25. @Humbucker , It's quite simple. You can create this effect using the Vector Warp (ADe) feature. (See video bellow↓) ADe_bowed_text_on_bottom.mp4
