Just a side note here in relation to laser cutting…. Can we please get measuring tool that can measure curved lines, please! This seams like the most basic of basic tools and yet it’s missing. Ai’s version is a terrible dialog box that’s hidden deep in a menu system… I’m sure Affinity can do something creative with this… or if not just include curve measurements in the transform panel.

I’ve also had this intermittent problem of welding only working sometimes. Look forward to a fix 🙂

Im trying to remove a texture made up from small random curves from an object using the "subtract" geometry tool but its not working.... this is something I used to do a lot in Ai but here its just not working?? Some object appear to work on outer edge but others are not?? Any help advice appreciated. texture.mov

Really excited to see Trotec job control support 👍🏻 Much of my work is done on a trotec laser. Just one thing missing… ability to measure curves and shaped lines… very important for precise laser cutting work. Please bring this feature.

As far as I know we’re still waiting on this feature… It’s possible to measure a single straight line but not a curved line or line with corners. Agree that this is a much needed feature… I also do laser work and other things that require precision and measurements. hopefully not far away…..

Yes I understand the power of “syncing” symbols…. It’s great. But why not just add this functionality to assets and get rid of symbols?? I don’t see the need for the 2 palettes? Adding symbols to assets is a good workaround to make them global 👍🏻 Thanks for that…. although this adds to my thinking that these panels and their functionality could be combined. Happy to have the reason for the 2 pallets explained to me… I just don’t see it.

The other feature I'd like to see is the ability to open a symbol library from another document, so I can use/access those symbols separately without having to open the document itself. Or for the library to act like the "Assets Library" and always remain available within software.... to be honest I feel Assests and Symbols should be merged into 1 thing, aside from some functionality difference between the 2 palettes are they not basically the same thing?? Or am I missing something here?

Also related to this is the ability to “select same symbol instance” so I can quickly select all of the same same symbols in a document and then use the “replace” function mentioned above. Selecting same colour/stroke works of course but only if ur symbol is a different colour to the rest of document.

You're correct "save as package" is the best function for collaboration. I'm more wanting to improve the workflow between my home and work in a seamless experience.... I use the cloud to store my files so it's truly a seamless from opening a file at home, working on it, saving it to cloud and then opening at work and continuing with nothing missing (bar fonts) all created brushes are with file, all styles are there, all symbols are in symbol palette.... at least this is how it was when I used Ai for past 20years. Yes I can "save as package", yes I can copy "app.data" package, yes I can right click on each "style" and recreate the library when I get home but none of these things are what I'd call seamless... they're great for one off situations or collaboration. Saving as package every day before I go home results in multiple files and confusion , plus if I forget to do this then I'm stuck. Anyway, looks like I'm the only one missing this Ai feature??

Yes you could do this…. But having to recreate my library every time I want to use it kind of defeats the point of a library.

I’m not imagining the entire brush, style, asset and symbol libraries being embedded in document… just the ones that are used within document. This should not increase file size too much, it works for Ai and file size is never an issue so don’t see any problems with it working in AD. But I hear you this could be an optional feature, much like embedding images is. True… I could copy appdata file but doing this every day back and forth is a drag and not what I call “workflow”.

Forgive me if this topic has already been discussed... but I couldn't find it. I would really like to things like brushes, styles, symbols, assets etc. associated with the document they're used in as well as the software. For example I have Affinity on both my work computer and my home computer.... if I create a "style" at work then open that document at home the style does not appear in style palette.... having this feature feature makes sharing and collaboration much easier as well as better work flow between computers. Don't like to compare, but Illustrator works like this with brushes and graphic styles etc being connected with document. Another feature I hope to see :-)

+1 for this type of feature Ai free transform and warp have saved me a ton of time in the past getting some distortion effect in an image without spending too much time. this kind of feature would be most welcome in AD.

+1 for this feature Boy this is an old thread, time to revive it.... Either this has been fixed and I'm missing something.... or it still exists?? I use "cmd +" and "cmd -" a lot when moving round my document and I'd looooove to see all Affinity software zoom into a selected object and have the ability to prioritise this. It makes for great workflow and surely this is an easy addition!!

Haha :-) I'm with ya @fde101 Whilst the "data merge" thing is a good work around for the time being it's very lacking in features because it's not specifically for pattern design purposes. As I said early i'm sure some kind of pattern feature can't be far away... if Publisher has data merge and Photo has a pattern tool surely Designer can soon expect something.
