  1. The global reset thing doesn't seem as important as the patience to click through the 30 recent files, each of which seems to call upon the now defunct server. The "Master Reset" worked for me once but it didn't work again the next time this happened, where the server IP address changed. The challenge is accepting that these pop-ups saying "disconnected from server" keep coming about once a minute for half an hour, where it is hard to believe you're actually making progress. I would have never thought to endure that many slow-acting pop-ups saying the same thing, but it eventually did work. This is the other thread Swan-Dawg was talking about:
  2. This is not a solution for working at scale. This is a real problem, when the Affinity apps on your computer won't open any files stored on the server without freezing. But in the real world, my Affinity Designer application is totally useless right now because it thinks every file it opens is on the server. It's really frustrating. EDIT: My solution was pretty easy. I used the "Master Reset" by holding down the control key while Affinity Designer 2 was launching.
  3. I have a QNAP NAS and the NAS is on and works fine for every other application, even Affinity Photo, but Affinity Designer 2 will not open, hangs every time, and then a pop-up appears, "Trouble connecting to the server." But the server is fine. It's working for everything else. Affinity Designer 1 works fine, too.
  4. No I don't think anyone can. It's definitely not the preferred default. Switching the default from preview to icon on the update was an oversight.
  5. I FOUND THE SOLUTION For me it's really easy to reproduce this crash. You select a new destination folder, click Export, and it freezes 90% of the time. If you highlight the folder in Finder and hit return on the keyboard, it works fine. Opening the new folder in the Finder window to select the destination effs it.
  6. I can not imagine a single instance in which folders are more helpful. You can always name the groups if you need to stay super organized.
  7. How do you select the drop down without using the mouse? I also love the keyboard shortcuts, command + option + shift + S to export then when I overwrite I use the command + R to replace the previous file, but I still need to use the mouse to select the drop down.
  8. The previous workflow for exporting saved a step compared to the current version. Now, instead of easily clicking once to select file type, a finicky dropdown menu must be used. This would be acceptable if there were some benefit, like fewer or ideally 0 crashes on export, but I've not found the upside here. Why has the UI design been downgraded? EDIT: You all have made some good points below, it seems more advanced users want to be able to use the mouse less, I agree, that was my point, I was noticing a two-click process in place of the old one-click process. The best would be individualized keyboard shortcuts for exporting the file type you'd like. For my workflow I bounce back and forth between .jpg and .png, so a modifier on Mac to Command + Option + Shift + S, like Command + Option + Shift + S + P and Command + Option + Shift + S + J would save the most time for everyone, the rest of the alphabet gives us plenty of room for additional formats.
  9. This is correct. It's 100% reproducible on the first export of the day, which is naturally when you need to switch folders.
  10. So first of all thank you for sharing that hack! The solution really seems to be to go into your System Preferences → Displays and customize your color profile, base it on "iMac" and then save a new one as "iMac Calibrated" or something and the screenshots will be imported and act properly in Affinity. I do a lot of screenshots so this was crucial for me, thank you. I don't think you have to make a big change or anything to the "iMac" color profile, but I did change the white point from 6500K to 5000K because it did seem to more accurately match my white card, I'm sure you could make no changes, save it as a custom (bespoke) display profile and get the same effect. I was super disappointed at how little the "customize" menu actually allows you to do in the system preferences, it's literally just white point. I thought Apple was about to show off some serious color correction interface but there was none.
  11. I see this post is almost a year old but here's a related tip: If you are in a position where you need your Designer stuff in XD, you can copy and paste between the two programs. I was desperate and tried it and was extremely surprised how reliably it works. Text layers will come in as editable text! All your vectors will be editable vectors. The downsides are some hard-to-understand grouping of layers by XD and your layer names will need to be re-typed—they all come in as Layer 1, Group 20, etc. But for me at least this was a life saver in bridging the gap to the developers. I wonder if you can copy and paste to photoshop as well... for editable text it could be useful.
  12. Here's a tip though, it's not as useful as drag and drop. If you copy the file from Finder and paste it in the artboard you can get almost the same result. The filename is no longer assigned to the Layer though, unfortunately.
  13. I think the two behaviours are both easily enough accessed by the distinction between dragging into your open tab and dragging to the app icon on the dock. This is extremely confusing. I have about 40 artboards open right now and for the first 30 I could easily drag in the .png background. I couldn't really tell why once in a while it would open the file in its own tab, but it worked. Now it opens a new tab every time and I can't tell why? The green plus's presence doesn't make a difference. I can't help but wonder who would drag anything onto an open artboard or pasteboard and wants it to open in a new document? What logic is that?
