  1. To be fair, there is one other app that at least on Mac that also takes 27 seconds to open: Devinci Resolve 18. But in my experience, that is the only other one. Most are between 1 and 10 seconds on M1 (Mac) and i7 (Windows) hardware.
  2. It's utterly absurd that this is still a problem—and yet it is. This startup delay is literally driving Affinity customers to use the competition when the rest of the app is perfectly fine. I can't think of a bug more needlessly problematic for retaining customers.
  3. This has been a problem for SO many years and I feel like Affinity are the only apps that are launching this slowly. It effected v1 and now v2 of the apps. It might not seem like a huge problem but it repetitively makes me hesitant to launch an Affinity app unless I need to. And if I'm in a hurry, it makes me want to use something else.
  4. For Affinity Photo, I'd really like to have some newer tools available in the realm of AI-assisted features. Some things I've seen in other software and some I think could be a place for Affinity to innovate. Background removal - there are even free web sites that do this very well, it seems weird to drop out of Photo to do this and come back to continue working on an image. Foreground isolation - similar but different, iOS is doing this in a quick way and it would be nice in Photo Re-lighting - Something that can be done with Stable Diffusion and ControlNet settings without much control. If something for this using more narrowly focused features in Photo could be made, it would be very useful for compositing. Generative Upscaling - It would be great to be able to do this from inside Photo, taking older or lower quality photos and using AI to add detail that was never there. This has come up with clients over the years, who are baffled that we haven't always had the ability to, "Okay zoom in. Now enhance." Alpha Masked Generation - Currently all the generative AI tools to my knowledge output their images as flattened rasters. What would be infinitely more useful for work in Photo is if I could generate prompts into image layers with an alpha channel. Whether generating over nothing or assuming a background context, being able to tweak composition of multiple generated elements would bridge a major gap between how generative AI is and now it could be so much more useful for designers.
  5. At step 3 I do get the save dialog, then it and the rest of the app becomes unresponsive. Trying to save on a the local disk, for example the downloads folder. What I've been doing since I found this bug is looking to see if I've already saved it as an .afphoto file (up in the name area, I don't see a file extension) and if I haven't—always making sure to choose "Save as...", which hasn't ever frozen the app on me.
  6. I see in the V2 release, they have this exact interface for Live Warp. That's great but I'll have more use for it as a Cropping mode.
  7. Does anyone know if this is fixed in the new Version 2 releases?
  8. Open a non-Photo file in Photo, like a jpeg. Edit the file in a way that it needs to be saved as .afphoto file. Choose Save or do Command-S. Attempt to save the file in a folder. Expected: File saves Actual: Affinity Photo freezes, requiring a force quit.
  9. I think this bug exists in V1 as well. Related to that, is there also the bug that when you change the brush size, the size ring won't update until you zoom in or out?
  10. Please make the following either default or a Preferences option: Mac Option + Mouse wheel = rotate canvas Command + Mouse wheel = zoom canvas Windows Alt + Mouse wheel = rotate canvas Control + Mouse wheel = zoom canvas I get driven crazy because many other apps use the Command/Control key for zoom mode, not for putting the scroll while into tilt-the-canvas mode as Affinity does. So I'm constantly rotating the canvas when I don't want to.
  11. Has anyone else found a way to modify this? I too get driven crazy because many other apps use the Command/Control key for zoom mode, not for putting the scroll while into tilt-the-canvas mode as Affinity does. So I'm constantly rotating the canvas when I don't want to.
  12. The temporary fix I've read about before (key word, "temporary") is to hold down the Control key when opening and clearing the user settings. The next launch at least will be quicker. Launches after that might be quick or not (I don't know what triggers slowness to return). Obviously this removes all of your previous changes to brushes, etc. They REALLY need to fix this. Slow launch is a terrible productivity hit and a barrier to wanting to use the software vs opening in something else. Needing to lose your settings is also a productivity hit and is irritating.
  13. I would like this as well. Everything on the iPad version gets copied into a local store, which is great if you want to make a local library out of everything but bad if you want to work on random files from elsewhere, and keep them there. In addition to the FTP and SMB suggested, I'd really like Mac file sharing to be supported and transient access to services like Mega, Box, Google Drive, Onedrive, etc.
  14. I've been wanting this for years too. Another thing is AF could do Adobe one better if perspective crop not only handled the corners but also curved sides. Since lens distortion is round, photographs of especially closer up things (like documents) get bowed out from the middle. If we could straighten crops by moving corner points and midpoint curves—we could fully correct for angular and depth distortion in one easy step.
  15. Is there a way that the liquify tool's Hardness and Opacity could distort smoother—both on iPad and desktop actually? When distorting with the hardness high, the edges get pulled along or pinched on either side of the brush. When the hardness is zero, the distortion is smoother but the center gets pinched smaller. To counteract these effects, I've been using a middle hardness with a larger size, then using smaller and smaller brush sizes to smooth out the centers and edges, or erase the wobbles afterwards. What I'd really like is for the distortion to stay smooth from the center outward but also not get pinched. Can math do this?
  16. I've been using the help button extensively but was still unable to find the quick mask without this thread. It's just so buried on iPad versus one discoverable click on Mac.
  17. For something that is so easily available on desktop and that I’ve used frequently there, it seems very buried and more confusing in the iPad version. I hope this can be brought to the surface in future updates, like as a quick mask tool in the painting brushes.
  18. My use case is for editing the device mockups that can be found around the net in Photoshop PSD format but not others. They often make use of the Smart Objects feature the Adobe app to make placing the "screen" in the virtual device a lot quicker. Support for at least opening the layers within a smart object would be wonderful in Affinity Photo. Currently I can usually get most of the way there by manually getting the projection right with Filter > Distort > Perspective but on some files, I can't omit other layers because some of the device itself is within a smart object. For instance, on one there's a shadow added that I don't want. Supporting Smart Objects would make this easier and more flexible.
