After I rotated an object, the handles for scaling are rotated too.

In many situations, this is very handy. (Thanks!)

But in this instance, I would like to squeeze the object exactly vertically, not along the rotated axes.

Is there a way to 'apply' or 'bake' the rotation into the rotated object?

In the move (and node) context toolbar there is an option "cycle selection box" to switch bounding box, it is temporary till you change selection

This is kinda old, but since I stumbled across this problem today...

Switching between the selection boxes is a PITA and there is one way to apply the transformation quite easily:

1. Select the rotated/skewed object

2. Select the Add (geometry) tool

3. The rotation/skew will be applied

The downsize of this is that the object (e.g. a rectangle) will be transformed to curves.
