big smile
Here is how my layers look in Illustrator Here is how this file looks when it is brought into Designer The names of the sublayers are lost. The LinkPDF is displayed as all the layers that make up the linked PDF, which results in a mess of layers. I understand that layers work differently in Affinity and Illustrator. But perhaps when importing Illustrator files they could be reworked to follow Affinity conventions with name sublayers being converted into named objects and linked pdf coming in as a grouped layers rather than a mess of layers. Staff Sean P Posted October 2, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 2, 2019 Do you have a copy of the AI file you are importing that you could attach please? Be aware that Illustrator creates two data streams inside an AI file. The first is all the AI data which is read by AI when opening, the other stream is a PDF copy (that isn't always perfect) that can be read by other applications. It is this stream of data we read, so if Illustrator isn't adding the text to that stream then there is nothing that we can read from it! However, Affinity seems to consistently miss the names of sub-layers, so I am guessing it mustn't be writing the names to the PDF copy? left page - English.ai
Staff Sean P Posted October 2, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 2, 2019 Thanks for that - that is an AI issue/limitation, they only export top level layers out, anything inside those are lost. Unfortunately there isn't anything we can do about that! big smile
