PDF import character fail

Recommended Posts

Hi

Win 10:
Publisher 1.7.1.404

PDF import seems to work fine except for a small square box in some of the text.
This appears to be with Verdana font where lowercase 'f' is followed by lowercase 'i' …..
eg field, fight, identified

The fi is using Verdana character code (hexadecimal) FB01 which is a single character combining the fi as a single character.  The PDF import fails on this character and just displays a small square box.

There might be a simple workaround, but I couldn't see anything.

thanks

APub should be able to recognize the old legacy ligatures and properly import them.
These ligatures have a standard Unicode code point.
See Unicode Code Pages - UFB00.pdf (Alphabetic Presentation Forms).
Most fonts are going to have some or all of these 7 (latin) ligatures.
And some of the other languages too.

While I can understand the difficulties of importing OpenType ligatures without a standard code point, these few which do have a standard code point should import properly.
