Distill7
When I try to update, I have the message "Setup failed". I tried uninstalling the software completely, but I can't find any of the affinity apps in Windows "apps and features"
Staff stokerg Posted June 18, 2019 Staff Share Posted June 18, 2019 Hi toutou123, Can you try the following: First thing to try for any install issue, restart the PC and once restarted go to our setup file in your downloads folder and right click this and select Run As Administrator. If the install is still failing then can you check this location for me: %temp%/AffinitySetup To get to that location, call up the Run box by holding down the Windows key and tapping the letter R. Copy and paste the above path into the run box and click okay. That will open a folder, which should contain at least 1 other folder. If there are more than one, find the latest one and open the folder, you should see 2 log files, setup.log and setui.log if you can upload those to our Dropbox here i'll be able to further

Staff stokerg Posted June 18, 2019 Staff Share Posted June 18, 2019 Hi @toutou123 Thanks for uploading the log files. This is what the log tells me: 'The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo. The installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator.' Did you try running the setup as Administrator as that should get round this error. Staff stokerg Posted June 18, 2019 Staff Share Posted June 18, 2019 Hi @fatback and Welcome to the Forums, I've removed the log files from your post but thanks for attaching them From looking at the error log, i suspect a simple restart of the PC and run as Administrator should resolve this. Try that and if it still fails, let me know
fatback
Unfortunately, I have tried that and much more some time back, even uninstalled my anti-virus. opened up the temp directory to everyone, re-started win install services, etc.

I have resolved this problem by using a 3rd party uninstaller, it tracked all of the files and registry keys created by affinity and deleted them, then I made a new fresh install and it worked fine. Upon installation, the software asked me for the product code again, it said it's valid but can't write it to affinity folder for 2 times in a row, in the 3rd time it started without prompting the activation window. In miscellaneos, it shows that my software is registered under my eMail. BTW, why did you remove the log files? Do they show the product key in them? fatback
Resolution Check the Windows Installer Service. Click Start and enter services. Scroll down and find the Windows Installer. Double-click Windows Installer in the Services list. On the General tab, make sure that the service is started under Service Status. Click Start > OK if the service is not running. Unregister and register the Windows Installer again using the following commands: Click Start and enter MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER in the search box. Click Start and enter MSIEXEC /REGSERVER. Run the installer again. Grant full privileges to the group Everyone in C:\Windows\TEMP. This let me uninstalled the old versions of designer and photo. Installed the 1.7.1.x version of both, did NOT have to re-enter software key for either.

Why doesn't the screen dim to Secure Desktop and display the UAC prompt to elevate when you run it as administrator? Have you disabled UAC?
