In the attached video, notice the indicated fill types of the shapes being selected. Also, notice how the linear gradient tool freaks out a bit as you select between shapes... When you refer to 'freaking out' are you referring to the shapes towards the end that have what look like two handles? If so they appear if a gradient is skewed, and allows you to modify the skew. The intention is that it will always try to maintain the look of the gradient when the shape is skewed. Quote
