JohnBIpswich Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 I still managed to encounter a problem today in the Publisher. I eventually tracked it down to 4 '0' sized image.tif on a page which came in with copying a table from Excel. The thread on export to PDF crashing gave me the clue to look at Resources, and that is where I saw them, and then had to work out how to copy a formatted table without them appearing. This turned out to be the difference between 'Advanced Metafile' Pasting which crashes, and 'Metafile' Pasting which did not. Hope that save someone else the time and gives clues to the coders as to how to avoid it.
Staff Jon P Posted June 11, 2019 Staff Posted June 11, 2019 Do you happen to have the file that was crashing whilst exporting? It would be useful to see what it copied in from Excel and what it was about the tif that was causing this to happen Serif Europe Ltd. - www.serif.com
JohnBIpswich Posted June 11, 2019 Author Posted June 11, 2019 I wondered if you would be interested. This is the Advanced Meta file one - Just try exporting to see the crash. Look at Resources and you will see the 4 '0' image.tif. I think they show up as green dots if anything. It is the table on the 2nd page. Copied as I say from Excel. Very interested to hear any results. I know I can do a lot more than I have in the file but this is the first time I was trying for real and I rely on others for content. I am looking forward to using it on the final release. I have been using Serif stuff for years and years and... John Advance June 2019meta.afpub
Staff Gabe Posted June 12, 2019 Staff Posted June 12, 2019 Any chance you can attach the xls file where you copied it from?

Staff Gabe Posted June 12, 2019 Staff Posted June 12, 2019 I believe you just re-posted the previous reply which is not related to my question?
JohnBIpswich Posted June 12, 2019 Author Posted June 12, 2019 2 minutes ago, GabrielM said: I believe you just re-posted the previous reply which is not related to my question? Sorry about that not sure how I did it!
Staff Gabe Posted June 12, 2019 Staff Posted June 12, 2019 Don't worry about it . I tried to replicate it but no luck. Every time I paste it, the 4 image.tif are not corrupt.
JohnBIpswich Posted June 12, 2019 Author Posted June 12, 2019 Think I have found the source of the problem, neither Affinity nor Excel!! I had been using a Clipboard and if I closed it, and used the standard windows one no problem - I did it in the last Beta - I see there is new one - but wanted to try it as it was. So it may be a help to ask if people crash had been doing the same (using an alternative clipboard, that is). I am now pleased to know I have resolved something so that I do not have the problem again. May have a word with the Clipboard coder if I get the time but more interested in getting geared for the release next week and use in earnest. Just about to upgrade and will check it again with the non Windows Clipboard and with the Windows one once installed. Unless I make a useful finding I will not report anymore. Thanks for following up. John
Staff Gabe Posted June 12, 2019 Staff Posted June 12, 2019 Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about 3rd party apps passing wrong data (in your case 0b files) but the app should not crash regardless, so that's what I've logged with our devs.
JohnBIpswich Posted June 12, 2019 Author Posted June 12, 2019 I noticed that quite a few things were worked on for today's beta involving export to PDF, including line height. Just about to try again to break something, but drinking my coffee after my gym session!
JohnBIpswich Posted June 12, 2019 Author Posted June 12, 2019 Still managed to create a crash if I used Advanced Meta paste from standard Windows Clipboard in latest beta 384 - could tell it was going to happen because of 0 kb image.tif so know how to avoid by using Meta data.
Staff Gabe Posted June 18, 2019 Staff Posted June 18, 2019 Thanks for your help with this bug. We have now resolved the problem and will make the fix available in the next release of Affinity Publisher on your platform.
JohnBIpswich Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 Pleased my problem bug has been solved and thanks for letting me know.
