Media Browser Open With Command

Recommended Posts

In the APB Media Browser a right-click allows the user to open the image with Preview and, presumably, edit it in that app. I will admit that there seems little purpose in editing an image in Preview when APB is open, but if you do, and if you change the color settings and then save it, and then use the Media Browser to open the image in APB, here is what you get (or, at least, what I got).

Interesting, but I can't find the chipmunk I know is in there ...

It is possible that the intention of the Open With command was only for viewing and not editing, but that was not clear to me. In any case the saved image opens properly in Elements 13 so I suppose there is some issue with APB understanding the format of the Preview image. Here is a link to it in case anyone wants to look into this issue.

I know it looks like a very badly adjusted image, but the point was to change it enough so that I could be sure that the APB Media Browser was actually showing the changed image.

FURTHER INFORMATION:

Here are steps to reproduce this problem, at least with Canon raw images.

1) Open raw image in Preview,

2) Attempt to adjust the color through Tools -> Adjust Color,
3) When Preview dialog opens, attempt to change highlights,
3) Preview says it can not adjust this image and asks if you wish to duplicate it as a tiff. Accept,
4) Adjust the color settings (increased the Highlights and Shadows sliders in this case),
5) Save (or export) image as tiff,
6) Attempt to open in APB,
7) Image is distorted when opened in APB although it opens in Elements without any issue.

The Media Browser is not necessary but this only happens when Preview duplicates the raw image as a tiff and that tiff, when adjusted, is saved or exported as a tiff. Exporting as a jpg does not show this distortion.

Normally I would not have even opened Preview but that is the default app when right-clicking on an image in the Media Browser.

At least for me the media browser is pretty useless: I can't add a folder from my external HD. As soon as I pull up Finder, grab a folder to move it into the media browser, the media browser window disappeared and nothing happens. It would be better to have a normal open dialog here.

In addition I am missing an option to get rid of images or folders in the media browser. OK, I know this is a beta version, but the drag and drop thingie doesn't always work as intended.

In its current state it is a tease!   It lists my Aperture libraries but staunchly refuses to open any of them.  It would be a really nice feature if it worked.

I think I feel a Bug report coming on ...
