Hangman Posted June 7, 2019 Posted June 7, 2019 When dragging guides in AD and AP the shape selection handles are now 'hidden' during the guide drag. I'm assuming this is a requested feature but I'm trying to understand the logic of this behaviour as I normally use the shape selection handles to give me an indication as to where I want to drag my guides as was the behaviour in 1.6. I can't see any preference to change this behaviour, i.e. keep the shape selection handles visible when dragging guides, as per 1.6, is this no longer an option? Staff stokerg Posted June 7, 2019 Staff Posted June 7, 2019 Hi Hangman, I'm not 100% sure why this was changed, however i can see from a workflow point of view it would be handy for lining up to the edge of an object and also for snapping ect. However, i'm back in the office on Monday and i can certainly find out the main reason behind this and i'll get this moved over to Feature Requests then unless someone else happens to know the reason before hand Quote
Hangman Posted June 7, 2019 Author Posted June 7, 2019 Hi stokerg, To me, it makes little sense since the v1.6 behaviour seemed very logical. If you have a shape selected for example so both the shape borders and its corner and centre control handles are visible when you used to drag guides to the shape edges with snapping on, both the shapes border and its control handles remained visible during the guide drag, in v1.7 this is no longer the case, they are now hidden during a guide drag. It doesn't prevent being able to drag guides and have them snap to the shape border but it just seems odd behaviour to hide the shape border and shape control handles whilst doing so, only for them to reappear once you release the dragged guide with the mouse, it's almost like working in the dark for no obvious reason. It may be that this is a result of feature requests from other users but I'm currently scratching my head to see the benefit of this change, hence wondering if it is now expected behaviour or a bug in v1.7? So it isn't in any way a feature request as it didn't hide the shape border or its respective control handles in v1.6 when dragging guides it seems to be a behavioural change for whatever reason. I will also raise this with our QA department on Monday morning and get an answer for you either way. For now, please do post anything else, separate topics are the best method as it makes it easier to keep track of things and if you can include a use case, as you have here that's all the better. If need be we/i can move posts to Feature Requests or bugs, as and when needed BUT most of all, enjoy your weekend i feel mine will be a busy one as i'm working it..... Quote
Staff Ben Posted June 7, 2019 Staff Posted June 7, 2019 The selection outline is still visible while placing or moving guides - so it is possible to see where your objects are. For snapping purposes this is the thing that you would be snapping to. The selection box, for anything other than a rectangle shape, does not reflect the bounds of the object, so it has little value when moving other objects. The selection box is a construct purely for indicating the editable controls for transforming an object or objects. The selection box will also be hidden when moving the page or grid origin. stokerg 1 Quote SerifLabs team - Affinity Developer Software engineer - Photographer - Guitarist - Philosopher iMac 27" Retina 5K (Late 2015), 4.0GHz i7, AMD Radeon R9 M395 MacBook (Early 2015), 1.3GHz Core M, Intel HD 5300 iPad Pro 10.5", 256GB
