ESC Key releases text tool

Recommended Posts

In InDesign if one is in the text tool (possibly with the cursor ready to type in a text box) hitting ESC releases the tool and selects the Move tool. This negates the need to move the mouse to the toolbar and is much quicker. That way your focus stays on the editing rather than the interface.

If the ESC key is not bound to another function then please consider this addition.

I believe the Esc key already gets you out of text editing mode, but leaves the Text Frame Too selected.

You'll still need to select the Move Tool, though, with the way Publisher currently works. That should just be one more keystroke, V if I remember correctly.

Note also that if you are doing this to move the text frame you don't even need to - you can drag the edge of the frame with the text tool still selected.
